As I found out when I looked into criminal contempt for defiance of the courts, actually pursuing this route is extremely difficult not least because this is a federal crime, meaning a) the judge would typically have to get a DOJ prosecutor to pursue it and b) Trump could just pardon it

Several times, people have called in missing persons reports after family or friends disappear, leaving abandoned cars or children and pets waiting. It only became clear what happened when they popped up in ICE’s locator. Now, they’ll simply disappear, potentially to never be heard from again

It’s about much more than this, but my story on Utah/Salt Lake begins with the anecdote of Salt Lake City as the first jurisdiction to consider a 287(g) agreement in 1998, and ultimately rejecting it after months of heated debate. It basically killed the enthusiasm in it for years, until after 9/11
