one thing i have long thought, in this business of Takes, is that there is an enormous necessity to discipline your own thinking. it is *so easy* to get lazy. to just talk shit. to just outsource your brain to your own comments section.

All I ask is for political journalists to get merely as angry about this as they did when Obama tried to move Fox News's seat to the second row in the WH briefing room.

Reading more about Flock I both completely see the arguments against them but am separately worried that the anti-Flock sentiment is being used by a lot of people as a general case against red light and speed cameras, both of which we need way more of imo

the thing is that appointing every american citizen to the supreme court and making every block of Washington DC its own state with two Senators -- both of those are constiuttional. judicial term limits are unambiguously unconstitutional. anyone telling you they will do that think you are an idiot

For no reason at all, I’d like to report that I’m at the part of Annie Jacobsen’s “Operation Paperclip” where she recounts that the bodies of the Nazis hanged in Nuremberg were incinerated in the ovens of Dachau and their ashes dumped into a river.

I know you're not allowed to say this during the current debate, but the reason the left dominates academics, art, comedy, and music is that the right has stupid, discredited ideas, they're not funny, and dull resentment does not make for good art. No grand conspiracy required.

In the summer of 2013, two esoteric, technical, incredibly important texts were published within weeks of one another: the first is the Snowden leaks, which revealed a system of global, pervasive digital surveillance. 1/
"Eugène Delacroix's painting 'La Liberté guidant le peuple' ('Liberty Leading the People'), depicting the French revolution as a ragtag group of peasants led by a flag-waving, bare-breasted incarnation of 'Liberty.' The painting has been altered: the scene is now being observed with a giant, smoke-shrouded CCTV dome, and the distant building have been replaced with a mainframe computer.

The NYT says today’s #NoKings protests had “no shortage of skeptics,” and then quoted exactly one of those skeptics: The chairman of the Ole Miss College Republicans (as of 2025.) But of course, the Times doesn’t ID him as such. He’s just a Concerned Youth.
The marches had no shortage of skeptics.
In Oxford, Miss,, Cass Rutledge, a first-year law student at the University of Mississippi, walked through the No Kings protest and around the town square on Saturday and questioned why people thought Mr. Trump was acting like a king.
"He is, you know, a duly elected president who won the popular vote and the electoral college in a landslide," Mr. Rutledge said.
"And so I'm a little bit confused on how he's acting differently than any other president."
He pointed to the stalemate in Congress over the SAVE America Act, the Republican-driven bill to tighten voter identification and registration rules, which Democrats have called an attempt to suppress turnout based on false claims of voting fraud. Mr. Rutledge said that Mr.
