Any analysis of the Iran War that doesn't start and end with the fact that an entire cottage industry of think tankers and lobbyists and their friends in Congress were frothing at the mouth for literal decades for this got exactly what they wanted and it failed immediately and totally is wrong.

The punchline about Trump illegally using taxpayer money to fund political ads is that making the midterms about the president with historically bad approval ratings is a disaster for the Republican Party

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

I wrote about who is actually making America “poorer and dirtier.” It’s not immigrants. (Gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
Who is responsible for this terrible state of affairs? The opposition party and immigrants, apparently. Vance went on to say, “The Democrat legacy of the last few years was that they bankrupted our country and left us poor. They left our country weaker. They left our border wide open and our communities less safe.”

But this account represents a preposterous inversion. Almost every problem Vance lists, the Trump administration has made worse.

The administration’s environmental policies have made American water and air dirtier. Its health-care, tariff, and tax policies have worsened inflation and increased the financial burden on most American households, even as incomes have grown. And its public-health policies have led to outbreaks of contagious disease.

The fallacy that University leaders pushing AI are falling into is thinking that the point of undergraduate research is to find things out. It isn't. What students find out is typically already generally known. The point of undergraduate research is to learn how to find things out.

A photographer in the Chatsworth Nature Preserve in Los Angeles captured a real-life image of something you would never see in cartoons: a coyote who successfully nabbed a road runner, instead of falling from a cliff, getting hit by a train or having an anvil land on him.

Also, I'm being quite literal in this: in high school we covered actual news reports on the Charlottetown Conference, the British North America Act, etc. We watched reenactments from the CBC (Canada: A People's History), we had to read some of the parliamentary records. This is all by grade 11.

The tech that wowed us in the early days of 90s Silicon Valley was connectivity. Shit like email, access to the internet, shopping at places you couldn't drive to, etc. These were all things that the technology made possible. LLMs aren't doing anything a lazy human couldn't do on their own.

People tell me they like suits but don't have occasions to wear one. You can wear a suit to court, funerals, and religious services. Doesn't have to be your trial, friend's burial, or religion you believe in. Go to random trials, attend a stranger's burial, join multiple religions. Try it sometime.

I worked at Disney a while ago. Do you know why theme parks are so safe? Because OOSHA reps can walk the track on any ride at any time and any safety violation they see is a $10,000 fine. Each. Theme parks are not safe because the company cares. They're safe because it's cheaper to comply.

Tapping the "To the modal American 'the economy' is food, fuel, rent, and utilities" sign. Yeah there's other things, everyone spends money on things beyond that. But when people say "Everything is expensive" or "The economy is bad" that's the stuff they mean.
