The drinking age in the United States being 21 gives frats a lot of power. Sexual assault absolutely happens in other settings, but being able to get booze legally elsewhere at 18 makes Greek life have a bit less power.

Relative got a $500 check from US Treasury and a shocking letter full of lies signed by Trump and ending with "May God bless you". Basically a pre-electoral bribe. News reports say they're sending almost a million of these. Full text in alt below. (I told him to cash it quick before it bounces.)
Dear [name],

For years, the Biden Administration overcharged you to fund the operation of HealthCare.gov. That money belongs to hard-working Americans, not the Government, and now, I am returning it to you!

With this Historic Action, my Administration is taking the surplus funds that accumulated from the Obamacare ''Premium Tax" and issuing a one-time $500 REFUND to Americans who use the HealthCare.gov platform to purchase their health insurance, but who do not receive Taxpayer Subsidies to help pay for their Coverage. You have paid into this flawed System, and now you are finally getting something back.

Healthcare Dollars should benefit Patients, not Insurance Companies or Government Bureaucrats. Since returning to office, I have fought to lower Healthcare Costs, increase Accountability, and Put Patients First. Through TrumpRx, we are delivering massive discounts on Household Prescription Drugs, and my Most-Favored-Nation Pricing Agreements have already saved Americans more than 1 Billion Dollars on much-needed Medications. We also secured an unprecedented 50 Billion Dollar investment to transform Rural Healthcare, expanded access to Health Saving Accounts for millions of people on Obamacare, and restored Pnce Transparency, all while roofing out the Waste, Fraud, and abuse across our Healthcare System.

I am proud to return your money to you, and I will never stop fighting to put the American People FIRST, restore Affordability, protect your hard-earned money, and lower the Cost of Healthcare.

May God bless you, and may He continue to bless the United States of America!

Sincerely,

[signed]

DONALD J. TRUMP
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

The Astros having their season ended by the White Sox inspired me to remake my "Houston-sized Chicago" map. It's been 66 years since Chicago last grew by annexation. In an alternate reality where the city grew to match the physical size/shape of Houston (as shown) it'd have twice the population.
A map depicting Houston, TX with the following information:
Land area: 640.44 square miles
2020 population: 2,304,580A map depicting Chicago if it had the same land area and similar shape as Houston
Land area: 640.30 square miles

I am delighted by this two-paragraph explanation of the TMNT in the Guardian. I guess this is one of the rare US mass culture phenomena that did not export well? www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...
Jakupovic isn’t the first to make the comparison to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a fictional group of human-turtle hybrids who, across a comic book, cartoon TV show and feature film, are depicted as living in the sewers. Per canon, the turtles mutated into humanoids after being exposed to a toxic green goo. They are subsequently trained in martial arts by a large rat.

The turtles, who are brothers, fight crime, frequently crossing paths with a man called Shredder and his accomplices Bebop, who is a mutant warthog, and Rocksteady, who is a sort of rhino. They also encounter Krang, an alien blob-thing who lives in a robot.

The owners of the "Let It Be" house (former Stinson family home) installed stain glass replicating the album cover in the pair of hooded windows just out of view on the album cover (if that makes sense). You can see them better in the alternate image on the cover of the 12" "I Will Dare" single.

My lukewarm takes on the permitting bill draft: - It'd accelerate dirty energy and clean energy. - Anyone who claims to know how much it'd accelerate dirty vs. clean is lying to you and/or themself. - Most important consideration is how it'd affect Dems' odds of kicking fascists to the curb.

Here’s the monthly data with a 12-month trailing average, so we don’t “look ahead” of the time series. We can see that visits from Canada are substantially down. Like, a *lot*. And if we looked at the French series by itself we’d see something too. But it’s not on the scale of Covid. Yet.
Smoothed monthly graph shows Canada has dropped in visits substantially, but not to the extent we saw in Covid

For a long time I've wanted a sense of how trump has or hasn't interacted with chatbots (we know he posts a lot of slop sure). And this TIME anecdote about Grok arguably leading Trump into war is just extremely bracing
Since returning to office, Trump has marveled at AI’s capabilities. He is increasingly in thrall to the tech executives courting him. In December 2025, Elon Musk returned to the Oval Office for a clandestine meeting. Trump spent hours asking Grok, Musk’s AI chatbot, questions about his presidency and legacy, according to an official present. At the time, Trump was ordering missile strikes against Venezuelan boats he alleged were smuggling drugs into the U.S. He asked Grok how Venezuelans would react if the U.S. captured Maduro. According to the official present, the chatbot responded that Maduro was a repressive and deeply unpopular dictator and that many Venezuelans would likely celebrate his downfall. After Trump ordered the mission to seize Maduro, the following month, celebrations broke out in the streets. Trump, according to officials, came away thinking Grok was ingenious.

The purpose of distributive requirements in college (humanities or otherwise) cannot be an educated citizenry, because the majority of Americans do not finish a four-year degree. Arguing over how to do this in college means giving up on a complete education for the median American.
