Charities' actions in aiding and abetting the invasion of our country will be illegal under

Reform hoped for a reset. Instead, financial shenanigans & violence in conference hall dominated headlines. Masked protesters, attacks on police & threats against RNLI staff – why did it take so long for govt to respond? The answer may be more politically uncomfortable than the disorder itself.

Whitby. I liked it. Cheerful, busy, boisterous. People having a good time, and then there's that haunting ruin on the headland, not even English Heritage can neuter that. And pleasingly remote, it takes three hours to get here by train from Sunderland, you can get to London in less time than that.

BBC interviews foreign sec & says "if we make Israel a pariah on the international stage, we stir the pot, we increase risk of antisemitism on our streets". The argument is deeply flawed while Israel commits war crimes on a daily basis. We can and must call this out without being antisemitic.

And he's right about this: there's no security for Israel until there is security for Palestine. That the Starmer government could never utter such simple truths, but instead treated the Palestinian cause as yet another means of attacking the Labour left, is one of the many reasons why he had to go.

Ah yes, James Orr. A lot of us had been hazy about what it is exactly that associate professors in a divinity department do all day. It doesn’t seem to involve a lot of work: Orr is often to be seen at Reform events in London, which take up the whole morning even for those of us with offices down the road. Now we know he was also sipping cocktails while discussing ways in which wealthy foreigners might be able to get round the laws that ban them donating to the party.

The associate professor of divinity was filmed explaining to an undercover reporter that so long as everyone kept their mouths shut, there was no way that the authorities would ever find out. Orr spent four years as a postdoctoral fellow in theology, ethics and public life at Oxford, and it would be fascinating to know at what point he developed this theory of What the Electoral Commission Don’t Know Won’t Hurt Them. Perhaps he was off sick the day they opened the gospel of Luke: “What you have said in the dark will be h
