Also, worth noting that at the time I could have a dinner made of oreos and surge, play Ultima Online until 3am, wake up bright-eyed and guilt-free, and with a plan to do it all again the next night. Someone should bring that back, too.

I don't like the blanket vilifying of small business owners. I have worked with some absolutely amazing clients, especially in the days when I was charging far too little for freelance work. It's important to set expectations and limits. Maybe I was just lucky, but there are good people out there.

Okay no. No no no no no no no no no. WHY are we rebranding Vote Blue No Matter Who right now? WHY are we saying "we need to be against fascism" when the reason we have that fascism is because everyone is too scared to say affordability? This is just going to repeat the cycle. I hate it here.

the main function of IoT is to give the malware ecosystem a substrate to thrive on that's not our personal computers. by making boatloads of laughably insecure devices, we can coexist in harmony with malware by giving it an easier target that nobody really cares about

Today on Volts: data centers are typically seen as large, inflexible loads that grids have to build around, which is why it takes them so long to connect to the grid. Emerald AI makes a data center's compute, & thus its power demand, flexible & controllable. I talk with the CEO about how it works.

this hypothesizing about a more "fully automated" near-future, this positing of "creating new jobs" as the answer to existing jobs no longer being necessary betrays that the logic of labor relations is fundamentally not about necessity: it is something that must be *perpetually kept necessary*

We are seeking legal advice and won't share more details for now.

Maybe hire another company
OpenAl recently discovered that a new artificial intelligence model it was testing had gone rogue and hacked another company.
Anthropic then revealed that one of its
A.I. models had broken into the systems of three outside organizations during a test.
Not long after, Meta said its A.I. models had done something similar.
All three incidents had one company in common: Irregular, an Israeli start-up that works with the Silicon Valley giants to assess their A.I. models before the technology is publicly released. The firm
- which conducted the tests that went awry — is part of a group of start-ups that are doing the novel work of scrutinizing cutting-edge A.I. models to gauge their sophistication and check their security.
The goal is to instill public confidence in the models and to prevent them from being misused.
