The best thing when it comes to people here complaining about the Top 100 TV Shows List is that most of the suggestions to go on it are either total shit or a show that only, like, 46 people watched.

If we’re honest with ourselves about who we are as a country, the reality is this goes back far further than Iran-Contra, or Watergate & Cambodia, all the way to U.S. Grant’s original sin of exonerating the racist traitors, Robert Edward Lee & co., at Appomattox in 1865 From Ron Chernow’s “Grant”:

1. HROT Yeah, I absolutely adore this game. It starts off very Quake, with a distinctly brutalist Soviet architecture vibe going on, but gets spookier than you'd expect. There's some moments in this game that scared me more than many full fledged horror games. I hope to do a video about this soon.

I'm increasingly convinced the fiction first/rules lite side of the hobby only hates crunch because they don't want to admit that reconciling the 'game' with the 'roleplaying' in their 'roleplaying game' is hard and instead of even attempting, they go sour grapes and moralize how it's bad.

Happy labor day! Freelancers are forbidden from collective bargaining in the US, and so companies have suppressed labor power and maximized profits by assigning work that would be done by staff to freelancers. This is part of why there are so few actual staff jobs in the TTRPG world in the USA!

This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.
Not only is this system astonishingly untested, USPS has simultaneously implemented an
impracticable zero percent failure rate.
13 When ballots are submitted to USPS in large-volume
batches, if any one ballot in the batch cannot be verified against the Portal, all ballots in that
batch will be rejected. For example, if a state election official brings a batch of 10,000 ballots to
USPS and USPS is unable to match just one of those ballots against the Portal – because, for
example, someone has recently changed their name after marriage or they’ve moved – then
USPS would refuse to mail the remaining 9,999 ballots as well. As the whistleblower notes,

This is insane. When I was in first grade my parents let me walk 3 blocks to school in the mornings, and home after it was over. The independence that I got as a child helped me so much in my life. No parent should face charges for something like this, let alone be convicted!
In June, when Parkinson was preparing for the bar—and also happened to be eight months pregnant with her fifth child—she and her then-youngest, Sam, went for a bike ride, as they often do. They stopped for her son's favorite activity: collecting goose feathers from the path near their community pond. When they got home, he asked if he could walk back and get some more.

Parkinson said yes. It's a short walk, along a sidewalk separated from the street by 10 feet of grass. Sam would have to cross two streets with crosswalks, which she'd seen him do safely hundreds of times—including six times that morning, she says. Off he went while she made lunch.

A passerby saw Sam and alerted security. One of the community's security guards escorted the boy back and gave Parkinson an earful. Pretty soon there were three cop cars, just as many cops, a security vehicle, and two Child Protective Services (CPS) workers at Parkinson's door.

CPS ended up investigating her for abuse and neglect.

The cops, meanwhile, charged her with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. CPS found the allegations substantiated and placed Parkinson on the state's child abuse and neglect registry. She will remain there for seven years.

Like, cowboys, sailors, and shepherds used to be known for playing music. When you had a ho-down members of the community would just show up with their instruments and play. You could play music just because doing so brought you joy, without having be be a "musician." And somehow we lost that idea.

Here's why people lay people think AI is a magical self-expression machine. Over the last 100 years or so, people have become more and more convinced that artistic expression is something unobtainable. But before people had records, they just played music, that was normal, it was how you got music.

Hummingbirds.
A four panel comic. In panel 1, a rufous hummingbird flies down toward a large hummingbird feeder with as many as 6 holes on top. He thinks "The humans put up a new feeder!" In panel 2, he lands on the feeder and gazes down at it. He thinks "It's huge. Many of us could feed here at once." In panel 3, we see a close up view of the hummingbird, and he's thinking "This could end the ancient rivalries. Usher in an era of peace. Interesting." In panel 4, an Anna's hummingbird hovers over the feeder and says "Hey, can I have some necta-" and the rufous hummingbird says "No."
