My biggest pet peeve is that there's a ton of scam websites that are "Free QR Code Generator"s then the QR code stops working after a few days and then redirects you to ask you to PAY to re-activate it. I made a page on website for making ACTUALLY FREE QR Codes. Enjoy. konig.games/QRCodes/ #QRCodes

It will never stop being funny to me that the street fighter subreddit has a much better, well reasoned ai policy vis a vis literally all universities.
Hi, thanks for posting! We do appreciate you thinking of us even though we have to moderate.

Our stance on all AI generated content (Images, Video, Voiceovers, and whatever else LLM based AI gets up to in the future):

At best, they are approximations of street fighter characters as the AI has no clue what it is trying to create. Because of this, there is no street fighter content so they are not allowed. (rule 1)

Also, they aren't allowed per our source rule. As AI sources cannot be tracked, we must assume that they use uncredited sources in the learning data. (rule 5)

Finally, AI images, video, text, and voiceovers are barely any different than posting a screenshot of a google search. The level of effort is so low that we consider it spam (rule 3).

Because of these reasons, AI art and other AI content is not allowed.

If you would like to contact the moderators about this removal, you can do so here.

Look, I know this is nitpicking and likely only interesting to a handful of folks, BUT... Somehow, in the key art for 007 First Light, James Bond is actually wearing his specially designed Omega watch upside down 🙃
key art for 007 First Light showing James Bond holding a gun. You can see his watch at his left wristcloseup of Bond's wrist and watch, showing a single pressure gasket on his hand side, rather than his forearm sidethe specially designed Omega Seamaster. It has a pressure gasket on the upper left side of the face, and a crown and two buttons on the right, in the same style as the Omega Speedmaster.

A Substack post by Tara Maggs highlighting a tweet by Pope Leo XIV about the impact of simulation on society.

Transcribed Text:

"When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth."

This is so, so well-articulated.
People call this friction "grunt work." Schwartz uses exactly that phrase, and he's right that LLMs can remove it. What he doesn't say, because he already has decades of hard-won intuition and doesn't need the grunt work anymore, is that for someone who doesn't yet have that intuition, the grunt work is the work. The boring parts and the important parts are tangled together in a way that you can't separate in advance. You don't know which afternoon of debugging was the one that taught you something fundamental about your data until three years later, when you're working on a completely different problem and the insight surfaces. Serendipity doesn't come from efficiency. It comes from spending time in the space where the problem lives, getting your hands dirty, making mistakes that nobody asked you to make and learning things nobody assigned you to learn.

This is why I keep it out of my classrooms. This is why I teach my students to be careful/critical in their consumption of gAI. This is why universities shouldn't be so bloody ridiculously uncritical in forcing gAI on faculty, staff and students. We're inculcating dependence on a catastrophic scale
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard it said that AI affects critical thinking skills. But while most research has been observational, cognitive behavioral scientists at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business wanted to add to the empirical evidence. So they conducted experiments with almost 1,300 subjects and found that in 80% of the cases when participants chose to consult ChatGPT, they went with wrong answers without stopping to scrutinize them.

“We call it adoption without verification,” Steven Shaw, a postdoctoral researcher in cognitive behavior at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, said in an interview.

Look I just woke up, and saw the flood of memes, but let's be serious here: that DLSS5 tech is dangerous and overrides art direction to impose a hegemonic white western cis-het male gaze, based on years of systemic societal biases in all media forms.
Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang comments on what he believes is a giant leap forward:

"Twenty-five years after NVIDIA invented the programmable shader, we are reinventing computer graphics once again. DLSS 5 is the GPT moment for graphics — blending handcrafted rendering with generative AI to deliver a dramatic leap in visual realism while preserving the control artists need for creative expression.
