Damn. With the alt text:
The incident fits a broader pattern in the discourse around 'free speech' and 'cancel culture':
[Section highlighted]
whatever comes from the top down is freedom; whatever comes from the bottom up is bullying and censorship.
[End highlight]
When Macklemore is dropped at the behest of the billionaire stadium owner Robert Kraft, it's an exercise of the freedom of businesses to 'demonstrate their values' by deciding whom to platform. But when Ed Sheeran's fans decide not to buy tickets to his performances, or even demand refunds, it's bullying, mob behaviour. Since most people are not billionaires and do not own stadiums, they can exercise meaningful power only collectively. The collective exercise of power must therefore be demonised.

Said another way: I would call it a near-CERTAINTY that people, globally, will be voting/stumping/marching/etc for "MAKE THE WORLD FEEL NORMAL AGAIN!" in the coming era, because we've had an interregnum - a time of chaos. The WINNERS will be whoever successfully *defines* what "normal again" MEANS 😉

So, it’s not a conspiracy, and you are not imagining it. The biggest and wealthiest tech leaders are genuine fascists. They are leading an active and intentional systematic attack on labor. And they have radicalized each other while sidelining or removing the remaining decent execs in the industry.

Everything laid out in Project 2025 was talked about openly as far back as 2010, and amplified by big VCs as far back as 2014, but most big CEOs didn’t start to fall in line until 2017 or so. By 2020, they pushed out most execs who didn’t agree with (or at least silently accept) this thinking.

I actually kind of believe the likes Platner & Brett Kavanaugh when they say they have no memory of committing sexual violence. Not just because these guys were so drunk at the time, but also because committing sexual violence is so banal to them that it’s not distinct enough to be remembered.

This. I'll use AirBnB if I'm doing some sort of group visit with friends, because if you're renting a four-bedroom house or something it can work out cheaper than a hotel, but if I'm travelling by myself, I want an anonymous hotel where nobody wants to know anything more than your debit card number.

A fun exercise: Any time someone is talking about the benefits of AI and how amazing it is for humanity, imagine they are your aunt and uncle who got into Amway really hard and stealth-turned your baby shower into a pitch meeting. Ignore the product. Just...watch the sales pitch through that lens.

Underrated thing that's been flying under the radar: ICE's hiring spree, by necessity since there are so few others willing and able, has been hiring away local cops, which infuriates the departments by causing manpower problems and is, ironically, removing the worst of the worst from their ranks.

To me, the biggest tell that AI is massively overvalued is that Big Tech has to keep shoving it in our faces. I just noticed Chrome has a 'Gemini' button at the top of the browser, and I'm getting prompts all over the place, including Zoom, to 'try AI.'

we can't get back the men we've 'lost' to these horrific ideologies because we never had them in the first place. it's been 84 years but dorothy thompson still says it best at the end of 'who goes nazi," which you should read if you haven't. the link: harpers.org/archive/1941... . the quote:
Kind, good, happy, gentlemanly, secure people never go Nazi. They may be the gentle philosopher whose name is in the Blue Book, or Bill from City College to whom democracy gave a chance to design airplanes—you’ll never make Nazis out of them. But the frustrated and humiliated intellectual, the rich and scared speculator, the spoiled son, the labor tyrant, the fellow who has achieved success by smelling out the wind of success—they would all go Nazi in a crisis.

Believe me, nice people don’t go Nazi. Their race, color, creed, or social condition is not the criterion. It is something in them.

Those who haven’t anything in them to tell them what they like and what they don’t—whether it is breeding, or happiness, or wisdom, or a code, however old-fashioned or however modern, go Nazi. It’s an amusing game. Try it at the next big party you go to.
