This is an extraordinary story. 10,000 offences a week, in one area. Just look at the photo, a child's life in danger, but authorities shrug. Then consider the moral panic over e-bikes.

In this week's war on the motorist, rat run drivers are complaining that they're going to be re-routed from a B-road with three schools and a local centre on it to an adjacent purpose-built A-road. The rat run past the schools has also generated 24 collisions in the past three years alone.
A map of Vauxhall and Duddeston in Birmingham. There is an A-road called Nechells Parkway highlighted, stating that it carries around 11,000 vehicles a day. There is also a rat run that handles 18,000 vehicles a day with three schools on it. The A-road is adjacent to the rat-run. There are proposals to install a bus gate and modal filter to stop through-traffic using the residential area, instead using the adjacent A-road.

We must take on the hateful forces that seek to divide us. My statement on recent events in Belfast.
The knife attack in Belfast on Monday was truly horrific. My thoughts are with Stephen Ogilvy and his family, who deserve justice.

Targeting and terrorising innocent people because of the colour of their skin, including setting fire to their homes, has nothing to do with justice or a desire to keep communities safe, however. It is racist mob violence, which has been organised, enabled and whipped up by those seeking to profit politically and financially from hatred, fear and disorder.

Social media platforms who give money and reach to these individuals to promote their hate need to be held to account. They cannot be allowed to continue pouring petrol on the flames.

The disgraceful violence is a direct consequence of the normalisation of vile, racist rhetoric across the UK, which needs to be challenged far more robustly in our political discourse.

I welcome the steps the Prime Minister has taken to work with police and the First Minister of Northern Ireland. We must stand together to prevent further disorder, and to take on the hateful forces that seek to divide us.

Why does a city the size of Birmingham not have any outdoors swimming spaces or Lidos? Every summer articles pop up about the nearest - all at least an hour‘s drive away. In a city where 30% don’t have a car, not everyone can access these. With increasingly hot summers it’s a massive gap.

Morning! Here's a cheery little piece in today's paper by me about the ostrich-like panic of successive governments in the face of the great British summer becoming dangerously hot www.independent.co.uk/voices/hot-w...
I grew up with Blue Peter advocating the removal of CFCs in aerosols and explaining acid rain (both now gloriously non-existent). Now, net zero is framed as a woke luxury that is too expensive. Too expensive for what? The literal future of the planet? For the futures of “women and girls” – both used as a political chip, both shown to be exponentially impacted by climate change.

Through the determination of some against the howls of the few (but loud), improvements have made all the difference. In the few short years since Sadiq Khan widened Ulez across London, London has become a more pleasant place to breathe in – in Zone 3, I can see the stars and, incredibly, make out the Northern lights. The electric car that my husband and I rented to replace our diesel one has been a godsend during Trump’s War on Gas Prices. If the council ever let us put solar panels on the roof, I would do so in a heartbeat.

This desire for net zero, for embracing change and not giving up hope, is evidently not for my pets. In a decade, they will be dead. My nephews and nieces, my friends’ kids – and yours – will still have decades ahead of them. It isn’t woke to want their lives not to be a total bloody catastrophe.
