Recognised someone earlier at my coworking space. Asked them if they were the ‘golf course grass specialist’ that I’d met a few years ago (for real). The answer was no.

Birmingham and District Allotment Cooperative suggest a maximum word count for complaints (and an update to complaints policies for allotment committees) because they’re receiving so many which have been written with the assistant of AI. d3q1f.r.sp1-brevo.net/mk/mr/sh/6rq...
Screenshot from an email.

“
Is your site getting complaints generated with the help of Al?
At the recent Exec meeting the members looked at some Al generated complaints and now are offering this advice
Gemini suggests that a complaint should not exceed one page ( a page of
A4 on average contains 500 - 600) yet it seems to be writing complaints for tenants up to 3 pages long. Obviously a site secretary has other things to do than get bogged down in such a conversation so this is our suggestion.
SITES SHOULD NOT ACCEPT COMPLAINTS IN EXCESS OF 550
WORDS.
This should be made clear as part of the complaints process. The version available for download from the policy will be updated to include this suggestion”

We celebrated 100 years of Hazelwell Allotments this afternoon - with apple pressing with the apples from our shared orchard. (And somehow I’ve had a plot for nearly 13 of those years).
Toddler stands next to two wheelbarrows. One with crushed apples, the other with dirty water. Child uses an Apple crusher assisted by a grown up. This machine is used before Apple pressing. A child in a bicycle helmet hunts for apples to press. He’s in the middle the frame and the tree because it has low hanging branches. Bunting, families with picnic blankets, garden chairs, folk apple pressing. Two wheelbarrows, one with crushed apples and the other with dirty water.

BORING UPDATE but I’ve bought fitted sheets that fit my deep mattress (I did warn you). The sheet kept pinging off every night from being too small and from me rotisserie-chicken-ing side to side feeding the baby. A very small upgrade in the grand scheme of things but what a difference to my day 💁‍♀️

NEW Why holding a placard is a terrorist act, while causing disruption in a balaclava is not The mess caused by ministers and the police not taking terrorism law seriously By me at @prospectmagazine.co.uk www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/law/th...

Recent events in England now reveal the practical difference between terrorists and protesters. It would seem that terrorists peacefully hold placards and get immediately arrested, while protesters wear black uniforms and balaclavas and disrupt infrastructure and do not get arrested.

How did we get into this mess? How have we placed ourselves in the position where terrorism legislation is used to detain and prosecute peaceful protesters, while those adopting the terror tactics of private armies seem to be free to do as they wish?

The reason is that for some time British politicians have not taken terrorism legislation seriously, and that ministers have got into the habit of misusing terror laws for easy targets.
