If you ever wondered why visible light is those particular wavelengths, it's because life evolved to see in the narrow range where water is transparent

By the looks of this, maxed out a donation to Kellie Torres too. Republicans see the forest through the trees - we have socially liberal (as long as they’re not poor people) and fiscally conservative politics in Portland. But class consciousness is rising and no one buys that line anymore.

oh the See Also on this one delivers as well en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driving...
"Prawo Jazdy" was an alleged Polish criminal supposedly active in the Republic of Ireland. The name was listed on PULSE, a computer system used by the Garda Síochána, with at least 50 traffic violations, including speeding and parking violations, recorded across the country, but there were suspicious aspects such as each incident being associated with a different address. "Prawo Jazdy" was also listed as a name on the Fixed Charge Processing System (FCPS). An investigation was launched into this person whom the Gardaí considered to be Ireland's worst traffic violator.[1][2][3]

An internal Garda memorandum in June 2007 revealed that, upon consultation with an online Polish–English bilingual dictionary, prawo jazdy was not a personal name, but instead the Polish term for 'driving licence', misidentified by Garda officers as the traffic violator's name due to the phrase being printed at the top right-hand corner of Polish driving licences (with the licensee's name and personal details printed beneath in a smaller text size). The error became public knowledge in February 2009.[4][5][6][7]

The Phantom of Heilbronn, also referred to as the Woman Without a Face, was a presumed female serial killer whose existence was inferred from DNA evidence found at 40 crime scenes across Austria, France and Germany from 1993 to 2009.

In March 2009, investigators concluded that the supposed serial killer did not exist, and the DNA belonged to a woman who worked at a factory that made the cotton swabs used for collecting DNA samples

It’s Week Without Driving, ya’ll. Hear the story about how I went car free nine years ago as a mom of five kids. I hope it inspires someone to give it a try for just one week. It’s actually an amazing way to connect with our city and much easier and safer than you think! #weekwithoutdriving

there are moral arguments against the death penalty in its ideal form but in real life you never need to get there. the prior question is "can the state be trusted to end the life only of the rightly convicted without torture?" and the answer is no

It’s important to remember that most people aren’t engaged in politics AT ALL. To me, it’s utterly inconceivable how people wouldn’t have heard of these two city councilors representing them, but the median voter probably doesn’t even know who the mayor is, much less their city councilors.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

POLICE CHIEF
PONCHO MUNCH
- FOR -
DEANO BONANO
I'M WITH
BONANO
During Hurricanes Ike, Gustav and Katrina there was one constant. Deano Bonano was there for Westwego residents every time. As Director of Emergency Management and the head of Jefferson's Homeland Security, Deano instinctively knew the needs of our city.
That's because in his 30+ years of experience in Jefferson Parish government, where he led many critical divisions, Deano not only realized how a parish could help a city in need, but he also knew exactly who at the parish-level could help us most. It was during our darkest days in Westwego that Deano Bonano was our brightest guardian.
I'm supporting Deano for Council because I know how much he can and will help Westwego in every way. I'm asking you to please consider supporting Deano as well!
It's important to Westwego!

One aspect of living in a personalist form of government is that people no longer expect the laws or norms to protect them. If the king is rumored to be thinking of demolishing a believed institution, people assume they must defend it in person

one of capitalism's great tricks is separating consumers and employees. that's the whole deal. if you buy online, you won't think about the exploited workers or talk to them about shit employment conditions at the checkout line. if you think everyone online is a bot, there's no solidarity to build.

Yo. This is the union calling for a boycott. Here in America people like to say "Well I was already boycotting Starbucks!" No you were not. You were just choosing not to buy their stuff. That is not a boycott. A boycott is an organized, collective activity. "I" don't boycott: we do.

A seed art entry in the 2026 Minnesota State Fair based on Pablo Picasso's Guernica. It features a loon, the words "Ice Out" and two representations of Renee Good and Alex Pretti’s. Notably, the mouths of Good and Pretty include their last words in Morse code:
‘I’m not mad at you,’ and ‘Are you okay?’” The artist is Jennifer Nelson.
