At some point we also have to deal with the fact that one of the two parties is openly hostile to democracy. If you have to win big every election or else the country falls into despotism we're all just playing Russian roulette every few years

I think it is evidence of how so much we have been made to think that gaining an audience is the goal of life in this attention-seeking economy that saying "a rapist shouldn't seek a public persona that is available for consumption" is taken as equivalent to saying they "can never rejoin society."

AI frontier labs may be the least ideologically diverse industry in America, and everyone there subscribes to a dense thicket of pseudointellectualism that all collapses to "if you can invent any reason for doing what you want to do, you can tell yourself you are rationally obligated to do it."

Just did a quick look around and I don't see very many headlines about the President of the US making people pledge allegiance to him personally while telling everyone to commit election fraud and "cheat like hell" to support his party. Seems like it should be a story?

Ossoff invoked Natalie Harp as a means to characterize Donald Trump as not wanting to do his job. This was not an attack against Natalie. El-Sayed invoked Usha Vance to turn the bigotry within JD Vance's family that *JD* was willing to campaign on against him. This was not an attack against Usha.

What's kind of funny is this whole "buy corporate, look rich to neighbors, conform to group expectations, be conservative and religious" culture isn't traditional US rural culture (which tended to have anti-law and rebellious streaks), but nearly 1-to-1 with mid-20th century SUBURBAN culture!

There is an art to this. One of Trump's superpowers is that so much of what he does is so completely out-of-bounds gross or illegal that the media blushes to talk about it. You have to draw attention to the stuff that is truly bizarre, but not so bizarre that you will be ignored.
