PSA for Atlanta bike/scooter riders: if you're in downtown or Midtown you are almost always safer riding on the street than on the sidewalk. The drivers are already having to go slow, the sidewalks have bigger bumps than you think, and hitting a pedestrian is more likely than a car.

1) Good news for the Earth 2) The Saudis are going to have to rethink their "investment" in the Yemeni civil war with output apparently at about half pre-Iran War levels (1990 had ~5M barrels per day vs ~10M bpd pre-war) 3) Expect more reserve releases for now

Simple, traffic is bad because SF is very dense but traffic levels are the only barrier to driving. Density and walkability do not fix car traffic on their own, nor should that be their goals since easy traffic with no other barriers means more will drive. Want traffic down? Use congestion prices.

Wearing a helmet is something adults should be free to choose for themselves (I do when riding in car traffic, take it off on separated trails). Unlike seat belts there's zero case you're putting anyone else at risk. Kids should always wear them, but being a helmet scold for adults is dumb.

Quick math based on info in this article shows how bs it is. Take their extreme case of 2k applications and "hours to set up filters" to determine who gets "a 30 second skim". Spend 4 hours on filters to spend 100 minute sorting 200 resumes and that's under 6 hours in a process that takes weeks.

“A year ago, every recruiter would tell me: We want to make it as easy as possible to apply for jobs,” offering candidates a “seamless experience,” Ophir Samson, the head of voice AI for Greenhouse, tells WIRED. Samson joined the recruiting platform earlier this year, when it acquired his startup, which used AI to conduct job interviews. “What they got was 2,000 applicants in 24 hours for a job. That is a shitty experience for everyone.”

Good applicants can’t stand out, while bad candidates slip through the cracks. Recruiters, Samson says, face the tortuous task of judging thousands of candidates, every single day. Instead of taking the time to search LinkedIn for dream employees, they spend hours in applicant tracking systems, tweaking filters to try to determine whose applications are worth a 30-second skim.

The key point is there are 3 levels of cameras (that in the US right now ALL get called "automatic license plate readers") which have different levels of acceptability, and tons of localities are choosing the worst possible level for this but justifying it with the best level. The real take away is that in swing states, both left and centrist politics are viable among Democrats (though centrists need way more money to compete) and who wins comes down to optimizing the nuts and bolts of the campaign. So no one needs to change their policy over these results yet.
