Ireland, like most countries, punishes women financially for having children, does not value care work or pay for it appropriately, and has an economy that depends on the unpaid care work of women. We are fundamentally unprepared for an aging population with fewer young folks around.

I want more women in politics because it is a huge problem that our elected officials aren't at all representative of our population, but we haven't considered the side benefit - women would not simply crumble the first time someone said something mean or that they didn't like.

Social media companies still do a terrible job of content moderation, with inconsistent rules, algorithms that promote right-wing content, and in some cases, abuse features built right in. Limiting that to one hour a day still means one hour of exposure to that.

It's hard to escape the fact that we just had day long non-stop programming about 9/11, where just under 3000 people died and everyone understands that that was a bad thing, yet many of the same people won't acknowledge that more than 64000 children have been injured or murdered in Gaza since 2023.
