Roughly 25 years ago I was introduced to the Sinister Ducks, which led me down a glorious path of discovering Alan Moore's musical collaborations with David J. Last night at karaoke I finally fulfilled a longstanding dream of belting it out to a crowd of people with no clue what it is whatsoever.

If a warlock wanted to curse a genre he could perhaps 1) make every single written work within its confines feature a foreword by the same sex criminal or maybe 2) have the most lucrative entry be authored by a crazed bigot and hang on a minute

Glad to see @lforlloyd.bsky.social post Moore’s essay on VfV -my favorite on creative process. While it seems planned out entirely, its genesis is instead a tale of accidents, synchronicities, unexpected twists leading to its emergence. A testament of human creativity that won’t come from shortcuts…

"Alan Moore's work is too rapey" is a really lame critique Most (NOT ALL) of his depictions of sexual violence are thoughtful and interesting, imo Moreover, Alan Moore is himself a survivor of childhood sexual assault, which must be taken into account: slovobooks.wordpress.com/2014/01/09/l...
yet, I have not been murdered either. Certainly I have known murder victims and their families, and I have likewise met murderers and their families too. While I cannot say whether this qualifies me to talk about murder or not, I am fairly confident that it has afforded me a more
informed and compassionate view upon the subject than I might otherwise have had, which as a writer I presume to be a good thing. This is also true egarding the subject of sexual violence. While I myself only suffered an attempted abduction at the age of six or so
and the minor molestations of a pedophile
head of first years at the age of eleven along with almost evervone else in my year, I have known a distressing number of women, including women who are or have been close to me, who have been raped, sexually assaulted or otherwise threatened with sexual violence.

Today is the birthday of writer Bill Finger (Feb. 8, 1914-Jan. 18, 1974), who took Bob Kane’s initial idea & developed it into the Batman we know today. He also wrote the first appearance of the original Green Lantern, and cocreated Robin, the Joker, Catwoman, Lana Lang, Wildcat, Riddler, & more.
A black and white photo of FingerThe covers to the first appearances of Batman, Robin, and Green Lantern, and the splash page to the first appearance of Wildcat.

Why I love Alan Moore...
Cover from Alan Moore's BBC Maestro comics story telling course notes 1.0

It's a large photo of his face, head tilted, dark grey/white long hair, frizzled dirty white beard and dark grey/white moustache, eyes staring through your soul, set deep into a gaunt face, twin bags below both eyes. Brow unforrowed but with the shadow of a thousand furrows scorched deep in to them. There is a large quote over the photo and it says:
"This is what a human face looks like after 40 years of writing. I'd like you to think about that..."

Philip Larkin’s this be the verse mangled into Ozymandias, the text reads

They Oz you up, your mandyias.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They give you vast and trunkless legs
A sunken shattered visage too.
But they were Ozzed up in their turn
By Mandyias upon the sand
Who half the time had wrinkled lips And half in sneering cold command.
Oz hands on mandyias to man.
Like mighty works atop a shelf Look on them early as you can
Ye mighty and despair yourself
