I still think about how the absence of consent is foundational to the business model. For example, at least 37 of my articles were used to train OpenAI's models.

deeply annoyed by how lush this random roadside staghorn is, i don't even think anyone waters this
a tree which trunk is fully covered by a huge lump of staghorn fern. the fern's leaves come in two forms, the shields go up like a green crown, the staghorns droop down, giving the overall appearance very full and lush

I'll never understand how "a lot of mostly/potentially/probably incorrect metadata is better for digital discovery than accurate but sparse metadata" became a popular idea than "we will put things online more slowly, but we will do it with accuracy"

Anyway if we want to talk about restorative justice in rape cases, we have to make...a shitload of changes to the culture first. Because at this point, it feels like a bunch of people pointing at gun at a woman and saying "WELL WHAT MINIMAL CONSEQUENCE DO YOU ACCEPT? DON'T RUIN HIS LIFE."

Contagion popped up on my recs so I turned it on and I forgot that in this movie, people want the vaccine for the pandemic so badly that they're like, kidnapping the family of CDC members and holding them hostage to get doses. 2011 had a lot more faith in us than we deserved.

Earlier this week, I agreed to interviews with two USA Today journalists. They wrote fantastic articles about the Cornell case that I'm proud to have been a part of. What I did not know is that their employer considers interviews to proprietary and opens up recordings to be used by any journalist.

In July, we released Courtney 50.0. It may not be the fastest writing machine, but it has been honed fifty years of intensive language training. Based on the benchmarks demonstrated by this chart, Courtney 50.0 crushes the competition so significantly that we should have used a log axis.
An incredibly long graphic, using the graphic in the post text at the very bottom (a chart showing Open AI vs Grok vs Fable release date on the X axis, and model number on the Y axis). There is a long piece of whitespace, and then Courtney 49.0 and Courtney 50.0 are graphed at the very top.

I do not think we should have a death penalty. I don't think it is any kind of deterrent. I think it's barbaric. I think it makes us all worse people. All of us. And we just don't have to do this to ourselves. We could abolish it, and we should.

It's time for the public to learn that public services cannot run on the concept of doing more with less. When there are large cuts to services that rely on public monies, people should feel the results. Libraries, universities, etc. need to stop trying to lessen the visibility of funding cuts.

These paintings are my artistic interpretations of things and places I've seen and visited. As an artist, I'm using paint and color to recreate my observations in a new way that's unique to me! Reminder, my 20% off originals sale ends Sep 30: thornwolf.com/shop #BSNM #watercolor
Text: What I saw, What I painted, showing my photo versus a watercolor painting of Harvard Glacier in Alaska. Text reads "What I saw, what I painted" and shows a photo of an alpine lake called Mosquito Lake in California compared with my watercolor painting of the scene. This piece has sold via my Originals sale that is going on until Wednesday, September 30thText reads "What I saw, what I painted" and shows a photo of my plein air setup looking over the sound at Whidbey Island, Washington State showing driftwood on the beach, three fishermen in a boat, and distant pine tree covered hills with my watercolor painting supplies in the foreground. This image is compared to my watercolor painting of the same which zooms in on the fishermen just a little bit. This piece has sold via my Originals sale that is going on until Wednesday, September 30thText reads "What I saw, what I painted" and shows a photo of my husband from behind craning his neck upward to look at a giant sequoia in Calaveras Big Trees State Park in California compared to my watercolor painting of the same tree (minus husband cameo)

Every student deserves a credentialed school librarian. As Dr. Emily Knox said on Episode 2 of the Liberating Lit podcast, “all kids deserve the best education possible, and that includes a school librarian.” 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
But I’m hoping to move that basically down into central and then southern Illinois to me. All kids deserve the best education possible, and that includes a school librarian. It takes resources. That’s really the main thing is that communities have to believe that it’s important.

It's fine if people don't want to have liberal arts education. Go ahead, have large gaps in understanding the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Live your life ignorant, incomplete, undeveloped, inadequate. You have the right to be a worse citizen, a shallow dullard, a lesser person.

FUN FACT! A ton (if not most!) Indigenous languages don't have a word for "wilderness" because that's such a colonial concept There's only words for "home" and "the land (a living being)". Land is always doing what it's meant to, unless something like us is preventing it

Anyway Judge McMahon's answer is "well if there's a problem, you fucking call me and give your shitty frivolous opinion to my face right then and there."
ORDER CONCERNING FREEMAN'S DEPOSITION
McMahon, J.:
My order requires no clarification. It is perfectly clear. Counsel for Ms. Freeman do not
get to set the rules.
Ms. Freeman will answer EVERY question that is put to her - whether or not the question
was asked previously.
If Ms. Freeman asserts attorney client privilege with respect to a question that was not
previously asked, you are to call my chambers immediately to obtain a ruling. If I have to rule on more than one frivolous attorney client privilege objection, there will be consequences, in the form of sanctions, adverse inferences, referrals to the court's Grievance
Committee with the possible revocation of pro hac vice admission to practice or admission to the Bar of this Court, and the possibility of a civil contempt holding. Please understand — this is not an idle threat. I am tired of this. I do not believe that Ms. Freeman's counsel is acting in good faith and I will not stand for being jerked around - and I am indeed being jerked around — in this
manner by any lawyer who practices before me.
