Maybe no one is more hated than women who resist rape. I’ve come to believe that women who have been, as I was, “public survivors” have a responsibility not to flinch in these face of this hate. I have a lot of rage about that time, but I don’t have any shame.

Democrats keep trying to guilt-trip Canadians into backing down. Fuck off. Deal with your own mess. This is your problem to solve, not ours. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...
Gallego, the Arizona senator, said the two sides need to figure out how to mutually step down from the current trade tensions, adding that it appeared both Trump and Prime Minister Mark Carney were playing politics when trade talks fell apart last month.
"I'm not asking Mr. Carney to just bend at the knee and give in, but this is the role of diplomacy," Gallego said. "You figure out how to actually start bringing the heat down little by little to a point where you can get to the negotiation table."
Likewise, Maine's governor, Mills, said there need to be "serious negotiations on both sides," and she hopes a third party can sit down with the two countries and make it clear a tariff fight damages both of them.
"The retaliatory tariffs, I can understand why that's happening," Mills said. "I can't say it's not damaging our economy, though."

Let's keep organizing against data centres. Let's make AI political suicide. Only then will politicians act. "If it’s better to be defiant, it’s better still to do it in a group. The way forward is to find purchase with others, to connect, & to mobilize locally, nationally, or internationally"
Perhaps it’s not satisfying when you’re in dread-mode, but I think the answer is when encountering the sort of devastating news that’s increasingly common of late, you need to take a beat, feel what you’re feeling, talk it through if need be (which is what I’m doing here, I guess), regroup, and move on — ideally in some capacity that’s useful to the human species you’re ostensibly so concerned about.

It’s okay if purpose is downstream of dread. But you’ve got to ensure to make it back to the purpose bit. I’ve written before that despair, checking out, or pre-surrendering is nihilistic and privileged; it’s better to be defiant, to double-down on doing better in the face of wretched headlines, malevolent corporate oligarchies, and the political class who produce and enable each. If there is indeed a 10 percent chance AI destroys us, there’s a 90 percent chance it doesn’t. What are we going to do with those odds?

So frustrating. Here's WA GOP leader Jim Walsh claiming mail-in voting doesn't work because the USPS isn't postmarking mail fast enough. And WHY IS THAT, Jim? Because the Trump administration CHANGED how the USPS postmarks mail in ways that delay that date.
Screenshot of a Facebook post by Jim Walsh commenting on a reposted tweet from the Lynnwood Times. The Lynnwood Times post includes a photo of three people at a press conference podium, with two women flanking a man speaking at a lectern bearing a "United States" seal, in front of American and Washington State flags.

Word-for-word transcript:

Jim Walsh's post (top):

There was a sharp rise in the number of disqualified ballots in the recent WA primary election.
Mostly because they were postmarked late.
This is part of the reason that voter turnout was so low.
It's also a major flaw in WA's mailing voting system.
Simply absurd to call this system "100% accurate." It's not.

An Indiana University instructor was fired after a Republican Senator contacted the campus because she had used a graphic in class that a student alleged connected “Make America Great Again” to white supremacy (the instructor disagreed). She was investigated and removed under a law that claimed to expand “intellectual diversity” while also preventing students from experiencing political views unrelated to their course. The course? “Diversity, Human Rights and Social Justice” a graduate level course in the field of social work.

An English college instructor in Florida was fired after assigning an award-winning short story she had used for more than a decade featuring a fictional teacher who engages in bad behavior. A student expressed “mild discomfort.” God forbid adults going to university should experience mild discomfort.

At Texas A&M a student secretly recorded an instructor, objecting to content about gender in her class on children’s literature, then met with the President of the university to complain, and recorded those meetings, and released the recordings to friendly politicians, who then forced the firing first of the instructor, the removal of two administrators, and next the resignation of the President. The controversy led to a system-wide review of courses and fueled new restrictions on how they can teach race, gender and sexuality. Faculty cannot engage in advocacy, without any guidance as to what “advocacy” means.
