“Paris has embarked on a grand transformation, planting 155k trees, adding hundreds of kms of bike lanes, pedestrianising 300 school streets and banning cars from the banks of the Seine. Parking has been turned into green space…Fewer parents fear their child being run over when they walk to school.”

How Paris swapped cars for bikes – and transformed its streets
Under Anne Hidalgo – mayor for 12 years until last week – the French capital added bike lanes, cut traffic and reclaimed public space, but not without resistance

🚨🚨 @coe.int of Europe said yesterday that the #US formally notified it that it would leave the Group of States against Corruption, or #GRECO. Only two other countries have left GRECO before — #Russia and #Belarus. The fall of the #US on the world scene is striking. apnews.com/article/trum...

Did you know that she called every hospital in the state to remind them that they are required by state law to provide transgender healthcare? I have no idea why she isn't running that shit loud and proud, but she did do it. That is what is going to get me to knock doors for her.

When Trump said he was sending troops to Portland, we said no and took him to court. 100 days later, they all went home, and not a single troop was on our streets. Now, one year later, we still stand up to the federal administration every single day.

Sprinklers. Smoke detectors and alarms. Fire resistant exterior siding. Ventilated stairwells. None of that needs 24/7 active monitoring.

There are a lot of eyes on Cornell right now. It’s moments like this where having an independent student press is most important, but doing that work has never been more difficult. Please support The Cornell Daily Sun in its mission for truth and accountability.

Many things going wrong but one nice thing is that you can toss the price of a fancy coffee at a local candidate and it turns into a meaningful contribution to fight against conservative + corporate politics

This is a fixed ongoing cost which raises per unit costs in smaller apt buildings. We need building codes which scale down with smaller buildings. Every resident has a cell phone glued to their hand, able to call 911.

Mike Perham @mike.perham.net · 30/09/2026
I’m not sure about this. This first point is problematic because building codes force multifamily buildings to have active fire monitoring systems which require a lot of infrastructure, a monthly subscription and annual inspections of the physical bits.

This is why RCV incentivizes candidates to endorse and support each other. #1 should tell us who they want ranked #2.

Note this too is a big reason why single stair still isn’t usable in residential Portland: SS buildings are only legal on 26’ wide streets for fire access. Point 11 here: www.portland.gov/ppd/document... This needs to change!

Kotek has no media presence. Dems need to learn to sell their vision. If they have no story to tell, the billionaire media will make one up and it will make the Repub sound like a viable alternative, even a partisan hack like Drazan.

Pitched the idea of using eminent domain on Lake Oswego’s biggest golf course to build housing to the Mayor last night. It’s a gaping wound right in the middle of the city, they pay $200k/yr in property tax for 120 acres!!!

Bike/pedestrian networks don't take 30 years to build. Stop accepting those timelines in your community. The best practices have been proven & they already exist. Safety should already be the #1 priority. The ROI is unbeatable. The timeline is a moral document and it shouldn't be generational.

The metric for not being included in the NW Examiner Debate is asinine. We have consistently had more contributions than Eric Zimmerman. Anyways, we’re less than 50 Portland donors away from unlocking another $100,000 in matching funds. Can you ask a friend/family member/coworker to chip in $5?

@onecityvan.bsky.social posted their housing platform. Lots to like: more housing options, more non market housing, better support for renters. Also, they're calling for affordable & accessible flats (like our Four/Five prototype 👇) to be allowed everywhere we already allow plexes and large homes.

How workable is this in OR? Go big or go home. Gov'r declares a climate emergency requiring ODOT to develop standardized bike/ped-safe street designs that cities can roll out to streets. Require red lanes on all urban arterials. Partner with PBOT/PCEF to fund build out. @tinakotek.bsky.social

The EasyCLIMB loop next to Cascade Locks, OR is really well done. Green trails with just enough optional but low-risk challenges. Two loops takes about an hour. There is even a blue jump trail not in Trailforks that is easy to roll over. #bikesky #mtb

So, the real way for basically every US transit agency to go into the black is to give them eminent domain powers to take land at existing market rates, and build housing near their stations, exempt from local zoning codes.

Another stunner from JWST—this time part of a *much* larger scene I'll post later. This portion is made up of stars and protostars in a cluster about 1,000 lightyears from Earth. The bright, multi-point features are nearby stars. The smaller features in the background are other galaxies.
From the source: "A star-forming nebula that contains young stars called protostars. Two of these protostars are shooting out long jets that are colliding with the nebula, creating glowing, colourful outflows. A few other protostars create orange and red areas in the nebula. Most of the image is covered by blue gas, with brighter areas, denser clouds and dark gaps; the bottom-left corner contains greenish-yellow gas."
