Perfect article on drivers and road safety by Sally Kyd. I’d add one thing; dangerous elderly drivers - speaking from personal experience. Unfortunately health + mental acuity matter when driving, and even when retested the tests given appear to be meaningless. I can’t wait for driverless cars.

Turns out net zero is cheaper than a single fossil fuel crisis. 🤷 The sooner we build on clean, home-grown energy, the sooner we stop handing the keys to foreign gas markets. But we also need market reform now - so customers, not just corporations, actually reap the benefits of renewables.

The problem with fossil fuels is their intermittency! What happens when… - the war starts? - the strait is closed? - the pipeline breaks? - the canal is blocked? - the power station can’t cool down in the extreme heat? At least you know the sun will rise tomorrow.

Oil prices wouldn't be all over the news today if more of our economy was powered by local, secure renewable energy. This isn't an "energy crisis". It's a fossil fuel crisis. 44% of UK electricity came from renewables in 2025. More of that plus an electrified economy => no more oil shocks.
Crude oil prices, showing a very sharp increase in the last day, from around 65 to 101 dollars per barrel..

@shashj.bsky.social Trump has set the narrative of low European defence spending/investment since the end of the Cold War. Should we send the USA a bill for Afghanistan? Iraq? You could perhaps argue that they triggered article 5 and so we put their needs first over European defence.
