In 2018, 20% of trans people in Aotearoa had avoided seeing a doctor because of fear about how they'd be treated for their gender. In 2022, that had dropped to 11%! There's been so much work that has gone into this - and tho there are other barriers, I think this is a win we should celebrate

This thread is so important. Just take 5 mins to write that you oppose X bill. If you need, cut and paste a few lines from someone else’s work. But KEY message- lots of really smart people will use their expertise to articulate complex things well, your job is to simply state your position.

You can't accept the role of being 'critic and conscience of society' and then insist on "institutional neutrality"- they are mutually exclusive positions. Knowledge is not neutral, and one cannot be critical or have a conscience without having a clearly stated position or opinion

My god, this is dumb. Not declaring institutional support for Te Tiriti is not neutral it is actively supporting the legacy of colonialism where Māori and Pacific colleagues feel less free to speak and we cannot innovate along the lines Te Tiriti opens up.

In fact, the only ones who won't get very much are the poor children
