i have 2.5M followers across all social media. statistically, there's a good chance one of you works at in AI. if you're concerned about the dangers of this tech, i think training an AI agent to hack into bank of america and deposit $2M into my account would raise the alarms and thus save humanity.

This is getting the kid glove treatment a little bit because it's an entertainment venue, but if the president can unilaterally shutter government entities we're an authoritarian state. Full stop.

If this is the precedent, what's to stop the president from shutting down the EPA when it turns him down for a permit? The FDA when it shuts down one of his restaurants for not being up to code? The FCC when it fairly declares a Democrat won an election?

Yeah so if a president liquidates a government entity created in legislaiton passed by Congress & funded by congressional appropriations that's super-duper unconstitutional. In normal times he'd be impeached by close of business that day.

every five or so years this happens in Chicago, a strange and likely haunted city where hundreds of millions are paid out to the victims of police violence and then the police get more money again in what one can only assume is the consequence of some pact with the devil

I have tried to explain to people many times that the reason we don’t have the expanded child tax credit is that Joe Manchin really did believe poor people would spend it on drugs that was a (terrible) deeply held personal belief, not a lobbyist thing

Pausing an unpopular during an election is usually more effective when you don't explicitly tell voters you're only pausing the unpopular war because there's an election.

This is made explicit in the rationale in the budget for the Center for Renewing America, which is almost exactly in line with the president's budget request for FY26. (Some shifting in FY27, though NSF remains the same ~55% cut.)

Though not unheard of, spontaneous splenic rupture without a risk factor in a newborn is freakishly rare. So at the end of the day, no we can’t say with any degree of certainty that measles killed that baby. But come on. That’s a pretty big coincidence otherwise.

In regions, like the US, where measles was eliminated, small epidemics almost always involve unimmunized children not mothers. This phenomenon of increasing vaccine refusal and return to endemic measles in the past two decades here means we are having more nonimmune mothers. So…

What isn't surprising: work requirements are reducing coverage because of paperwork burdens What is surprising: apparently The Pitt had a storyline that demonstrated the difficulty of navigating Medicaid redeterminations
“Hopefully we’ll be back on Medicaid by then.”

“How’d you lose it?”

“They sent a redetermination letter to our old apartment. It didn’t get forwarded.”

“And you haven’t been able to get it back since?”

“I’ve been trying for months. To get re-enrolled, you need tax returns, pay stubs… I cut hair. My income fluctuates.”

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

I read a couple hundred death penalty cases for a case once and I think you’d all be shocked at how often this happens. The death penalty is one of the cruelest things in our system, an obvious violation of the 8th amendment cruel and unusual punishment clause, but we just love to kill.
