very appropriately, this phrasing predates Newton by more than half of a millennium #TIL
Early references
Middle Ages
The earliest documented attestation of this aphorism appears in 1123 in William of Conches's Glosses on Priscian's Institutiones grammaticae.[4] Where Priscian says quanto juniores, tanto perspicaciores (young men simply can see more sharply), William comments:

The ancients had only the books which they themselves wrote, but we have all their books and moreover all those which have been written from the beginning until our time.… Hence we are like a dwarf perched on the shoulders of a giant. The former sees further than the giant, not because of his own stature, but because of the stature of his bearer. Similarly, we [moderns] see more than the ancients, because our writings, modest as they are, are added to their great works.[5]

Although additional details of the system were not revealed at trial, subsequent reporting by 404 Media revealed that Schott most likely was identified by a federal predictive policing unit working out of a so-called fusion center in Laredo that used artificial intelligence to identify him as a likely criminal.

“Homeland Security, DEA, everybody’s there,” Dep. Joel Babb, who pulled Schott over, said in a pre-trial deposition. “And they have a lot bigger toys than a license plate reader.”

fter receiving the WhatsApp message, Babb waited for Schott’s truck to appear, eventually pulling him over for crossing the yellow shoulder line. Schott’s dashboard camera showed him staying inside his lane and the deputy later admitted it was just a pretext to look inside the vehicle.

“The beautiful thing about the Texas traffic code is there’s thousands of things you can stop a vehicle for,” he later testified. After detaining Schott for more than an hour, and doing more than $7,000-worth of damage to his truck during their search, Bexar deputies’ interrogation and search turned up nothing. Yet Molina wrote on his report that they had seen specks of marijuana leaves. If so, nothing was ever collected or tested or mentioned on any body camera footage, Molina later conceded. The interdiction team was so unsuccessful that Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar had joked about it. While the deputies made hundreds of stops, “I would rib them about not being very effective at drug interdiction, not finding drugs very often,” he said in a deposition.

great contextualization from @melodyschreiber.com
Kennedy only mentioned the measles outbreak once in a speech spanning nearly an hour and a half at an anti-vaccine conference on Thursday. He noted only that deaths from measles are headline news and he asked that severe side effects and deaths from vaccines get the same attention. About one to two people in a million experience severe side effects from vaccines, while with measles one in five people are hospitalized and one to three in 1,000 die.

Erica Schwartz, the CDC director, denied in an interview that deaths were being miscounted for political reasons, pointing instead to the process of creating a definition. “If someone got hit by a bus, and they happened to have Covid, often that was called a Covid-related death,” Schwartz said, referencing misinformation about how Covid deaths were counted. In reality, Covid deaths were likely under-counted.

Pennsylvania’s definition of “measles death” clearly excludes unrelated deaths, so the bus scenario would not apply, Houry said. “Dr Schwartz’s comments are not only not helpful, but contribute to misinformation.”

But this isn’t the most important issue right now, she added. “I would focus less on the definition itself and responding to the measles outbreak, and that’s what the focus of the CDC director should be.”

Robert F Kennedy Jr, HHS secretary, has cast doubt on the Pennsylvania deaths and reportedly instructed Schwartz not to include them in the CDC tally.

It is also said that it came from the answer of an indigenous Maya to the question of a Spanish explorer, who wanted to know the name of the region. The Maya probably replied Ma'anaatik ka t'ann which means in the Maya language I do not understand your speech or I do not understand you.
Probably the first person to propose the "I do not understand" version was the friar Toribio de Benavente Motolinía. In his book Historia de los indios de la Nueva España (History of the Indians of New Spain) he says

because talking with those Indians of the coast, whatever the Spanish asked the Indians responded: Tectetán, Tectetán which means I don't understand you, I don't understand you; they corrupted the word, and not understanding what the Indians said, they said: Yucatán is the name of this land; and the

A former unnamed case manager told Stat that a supervisor directed her to immediately restart a case review process for any patient who won an appeal. “And 99.9 percent of the time, we’re going to turn right back around and issue another [denial],” the former case manager said. “Well, you won, but OK, what’d that get you? Three or four days? You’re going to get another [denial] on your next review, because they want you out.”

"When they raise doubt on the adjudication that a state may have made around a death, that is highly problematic," says Daskalakis. "This is dangerous.""What we have been seeing, that got amplified even more with these measles cases, is a breakdown in the coordination and trust between states and the federal government," says Dr. Anne Zink, a senior fellow at the Yale School of Public Health who previously served as Alaska's chief medical officer and president of the Association for State and Territorial Health Officers. "That to me is a significant concern.
These partnerships are critical and essential to making us healthy and well.""What the director should be doing instead of looking into these disease counts is responding to the outbreak itself, says Dr. Debra Houry, who resigned as the CDC's chief medical officer at the same time as Daskalakis for the same reasons. "I haven't heard from her talking about the importance of getting kindergarteners vaccinated when we're seeing declining rates.
It's back to school time around the United States. We need her to step up publicly to talk about what can be done.""We are seeing a pretty compromised CDC and a director who is at best facilitating non-scientific behavior and at worst colluding with non-scientific behavior," says Daskalakis.

It's quite different from our other pedals. It can get extreme, but the focus throughout development was on tasteful, musical enhancement. It's about creating a more lively and interactive version of your instrument that feeds off of your choices. It gives you something to play off.

the short answer is maybe
The Table lists key elements to be reported in studies that use difference-in-differences analyses. Going forward, for articles reporting studies using difference-in-differences analyses, authors should address these elements and report key information allowing readers to evaluate the strength of the causal interpretation of the results. Although causal language for selected studies of observational data has appeared in articles in our journals in the past, we are now requiring more systematic consideration of its use and reporting.

Use of Causal Language
Causal language (including use of terms such as effect and efficacy) should be used only for randomized clinical trials. For all other study designs (including meta-analyses of randomized clinical trials), methods and results should be described in terms of association or correlation and should avoid cause-and-effect word-
ing. To read more about use of causal language, see the AMA Manual of Style.

one of the greatest concerns is that some patients may lose Medicaid coverage not because they no longer qualify, but because they become caught in the administrative process.

Patients move. Phone numbers change. Renewal notices are mailed to old addresses. Life gets busy. Dr. Uren said he worries that many patients may not realize they’ve lost coverage until they attempt to refill a prescription or schedule a follow-up appointment. Those concerns are informed by previous experience.
