Re the debate on the cliff edge where tax-free childcare is lost at £100k leading to people keeping their income below this amount, it’s obvious that such cliff edges are bad as it skews decisions about work – no-one should be worse off if their earnings increase. /1 🧵

On the main stage at Conservative conference, the shadow transport team is discussing how to “counter” things like 20mph zones and bus lanes. The war on the motorist lives.

Yes it's an annual rental for which you get a key in the post (mail). You're encouraged to lock them inside the hangar too. There are other models which are all enabled and can be rented for a short stay / visitor parking but those are much less common in London.

It must. Also, when parked (legally or illegally) they make passing harder, and additional length means less vehicles can clean a junction in a cycle...

At 8.5mph buses in NY are now only slightly slower than in London where speeds are in decline. Bus priority measures are sadly not keeping up with, let alone beating, congestion. TfL Network Performance all buses: Q1 2024/2025 = 9.27mph Q1 2025/2026 = 9.16mph Q1 2026/2027 = 9.06mph

Worth saying that the consultation took place post Conservative Westminster backing out of their own pedestrianisation plans, but before the Mayor announced his own so the question was answered with traffic on Oxford Street in mind. (Agree these problems need solving at a system / network level.)

Love the dock to cover the cargo box. I have tried closed box shared cargo bikes, which preclude carrying many larger loads (including people/dogs) and open ones which can attract rubbish/debris. I hope someone adapts this design for a London scheme soon.
