"Free city centre buses" is hard to beat as a sign to greet you off a train. Fantastic to see (and scheme with) old and new friends at Active Travel England's Making Active Places yesterday in Manchester.

Sounds like even reversing the painted cycle lane from their previous administration... What we (Labour admin) did was protect it with segregation so that it wasn't routinely ignored by drivers. Cars being allowed to rat run through a residential area is the problem. One more lane should do it. 🙃

Got to cycle the new C55 arrangement today. Worked very well. Before, the narrow gate on the left is what everyone on foot and cycles had to share to get to Park Lane. Now, a lovely new stretch of two way cycle track through the gates. Better for everyone. Well done TRP & TFL @willnorman.co.uk

Removing Toronto's bike lanes will be a HUGE SUCCESS, which is why Doug Ford's administration suppressed official advice saying it won't solve traffic congestion, and has indemnified itself should cyclists be killed on streets where it will remove cycle lanes. Very normal, confident, sane stuff.

I loved my WeeRide while it lasted. I hope its new owners will have many happy rides like this one. (The weight being centered in the bike makes it more maneuverable than some other front child seat options. But the chunky bar doesn't enable step through frame which I really value at the moment.)

Westminster Council Conservatives, of 'vertical drinking' fame, earlier this year proudly cancelled a cycle lane on Hamilton Terrace. Where on a Thursday afternoon last June a 13 year old boy was hit and seriously injured by the driver of a car. They have received no negative press for doing so.
Screenshot of a newsletter from Paul Swaddle Leader of the Conservative Group and Westminster Council which read:

We are wasting no time. One of our first acts has been to halt any more work on the C51 Cycleway scheme on Hamilton Terrace in St John's Wood. Over 1,000 residents backed the local campaign against it, raising serious concerns about safety, the loss of parking and electric charging points, and the enormous cost of ripping up the road. We listened then. We are acting now. This is what Real Action looks like from day one. We will always listen. Tell me what matters most to you below:
Screenshot of TfL road danger reduction dashboard summary of collision which reads:

On 12/06/2025 there was a moderately serious collision at 15:15 at On Hamilton Terrace, Near The Junction With Abercorn Place.. The collision took place on an unclassified road. The collision involved a pedal cycle and a car, resulting in 1 moderately seriously injured cyclist.

Yes UK highway code strengthened pedestrian priority in 2022. AFAIK the campaign to educate was small. I doubt a bigger campaign alone could have improved compliance very significantly. Side road zebras should have been permitted in '22 (rather than '27) so infrastructure could reinforce the rules.

I just installed these incredible awnings for our sash windows (in millennial green ofc) and I think I'm ready for them to be my entire personality. No planning permission, take em away if you move, what a dream.* Shipping to the UK only but you can request for other countries: www.stayshaded.co.uk
Cardboard box with an orange logo reading Shaded Product Information

Welcome to your new detachable, DIY, one-size-fits-all awning for sash windows! Thank you for supporting our mission of adapting the UK to hotter weather.

This awning is a tool to help passively cool your space. It can be adjusted to fit any sash window up to 1.2 meters wide, and installed without drilling from inside. It simply clamps on directly to the top sash of the window, and can be taken on and off as needed.

Read these instructions before using the awning, and save them for reference. Hold onto the box to store the awning seasonally.Photo of the shade awning installed from the insidePhoto of the shade awning installed from the inside

A bloody nose for Sir Kier From today's Westminster Extra: The Conservatives have just been elected to run Westminster Council with the lowest vote share of any party to do it. They have nearly 60% of the councillors with 35% of the vote. And they are promising cuts to council services. 1/

They've got a mandate to do their manifesto, obviously. I'm sure some *Conservative voters* wanted what you call out. But consider that this was typical of their pitch to the electorate. The flip side would have been some version of this website: www.westminsterconservatives.com/100 1/

The Westminster City Council elections on Thursday 7th May will be decided by your vote.

In 2022, council seats across Westminster were won and lost by fewer than 20 votes. This election will be just as close. Your vote - and whether you use it - could be the difference between more of the same managed decline under Labour, or the positive change Westminster needs.

Around 35% of residents in Bayswater vote in local elections. That means hundreds of people who could have had their say on who runs vital council services, and sets your council tax, miss out.

Please do not let that be you. Make sure you have your say on Thursday 7th May.

What is at stake

After four years of Labour running Westminster, crime is up, streets are dirtier, record numbers of people are sleeping rough and satisfaction with the Council has fallen three years in a row.

Labour wasted £27 million clearing up their Geoffrey Osborne contract scandal, awarded themselves pay rises of up to 62 per cent and are projecting council tax rises of up to 75 per cent.

Same Old Labour: you pay more, you get less, and they waste the difference.

But you have the power to change things for the better with your vote on Thursday 7th May.

The Conservatives have the team, the experience, and the plan to deliver the change Westminster needs. And only the Conservatives can beat Labour here.

Thank you Bayswater residents for voting. I heard a lot of anger on the doorstep toward Labour nationally, with many of our previous supporters voting Green. I was not re-elected and Westminster Council is now Conservative. I'm sorry we won't be able to continue, but incredibly proud of our record.

Meanwhile, the Conservative candidates for this key Council battleground appear unaware that it was their own party that added cycle lanes to Sussex Gardens in 2018. (After the labor administration was elected to Westminster Council in 2022, we installed wands.) 2/
Extract from conservative candidates answers in above link: " The traffic strategy of Labour-run Westminster and Labour-run London is all wrong. They have narrowed and slowed down major arterial roads, like Sussex Gardens and Park Lane, with plans to do the same for the Bayswater Road and to shut to traffic large parts of Oxford Street entirely, which has led to the inevitable displacement of traffic onto quieter, residential streets. Powerful from @guidedogsuk.bsky.social on our tactile policy change and £1.5M program to upgrade crossings. For 27 years Westminster Council's conservative admins knowingly disregarded national guidance, but we have changed that. 1/
Letter from Clive Wood at Guide Dogs to the author, full text: "I was delighted to read that Westminster City Council have approved a scheme that will upgrade the tactile surfaces at crossing points across the City. Bringing these crossing points in line with national tactile guidance. For several years, Guide Dogs and other representative organisations for people with a vision impairment and other groups have raised our concerns with the previous administration around tactile surface inconsistency, poor contrast and design at crossing points. For the estimated 6,640 people living with sight loss and the thousands of vision impaired visitors to Westminster, we know that this landmark decision by the council will make a significant difference to enabling independent mobility with confidence. On behalf of the charity Guide Dogs and those we support, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Westminster City Council for introducing a scheme that will make a real difference. Also from myself who is vision impaired and walks in Westminster on a regular basis."
