Mat Paterson @matpaterson.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Overall, a useful corrective to commonplace naive arguments that climate policy can be pursued without thinking about political incentives, power, and strategy. 120
Mat Paterson @matpaterson.bsky.social · 30/09/2026This might seem intuitive, but the data is based on the UN's Clean Development Mechanism, and existing work on that in India suggested the decision-making in the 'Designated National Authority' (the national-level CDM decision-making institution) was outside political control. 3/ 100
Mat Paterson @matpaterson.bsky.social · 30/09/2026It shows that, and how, governing parties in India shape who benefits from international climate finance. Mat Paterson @matpaterson.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Kevin anderson’s argument is worth reading also. But yhe main issue in my view is time. If we open new oil and gas now the investors will be assuming to run it for 40ish yrs. So any investment now locks in emissions beyond when we have to have eliminated it. 000

Mat Paterson @matpaterson.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Looking at those numbers for holborn in 2024, lots presumably depends on what happens to the libdem and tory votes. If they hold up the same, that brings the threshold down sirely. And little reason to do that as there was In Makerfield. 100
Mat Paterson @matpaterson.bsky.social · 11/09/2026 not obviously important in Holborn as the parties people are voting agInst tactically are not in the picture. Just the issue of where the Feinstein votes go which is somewhat different. Structurally though in your model seems pretty clearly like Makerfield no? 110
Mat Paterson @matpaterson.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Nice one Jack. I wonder if there is a potential for incorporating tactical voting potential also? The Gorton/Makerfield comparison seems to me to underscore that was critical, and in Makerfield simplified the potential no of parties from 3 to 2, as well as increasing GP vote share in Gorton. 110
