1/11 In late June 2026, a paper in Nature by Labini & Galoppo using data from the DESI project claimed to have found anisotropy (directional differences) in the #Universe on scales up to 1 gigaparsec (about 3.26 billion ly). 🔭 This would have challenged the standard ΛCDM model.⚛️ 🧪 #cosmology
This is a slice from DESI’s large 3D map of the Universe. You can see galaxies and quasars as bright points spread above and below the Milky Way. Earth sits in the center of the view. A black area blocks the light from behind our own galaxy. The small inset shows the web-like pattern of galaxies and voids. The farthest light we see here left its source 11 billion years ago.

"Everything" is one of the comics that will be included in the "Parenting " SMBC comic collection that is currently available on Kickstarter! KICKSTARTER ◆ www.kickstarter.com/projects/wei...
Part 1/4 of an 8-panel SMBC comic. This first part has 2 panels. A man is describing how he often imagines meeting a great person from centuries past to explain modern science to them. He explains that is would be a thrill to see the face of Galileo or Newton or Faraday of Mendeleev or Curie or Darwin or Archimedes as they learned what we know now. Both panels shows the man in the imaginary scenario he is describing.Part 2/4 of an 8-panel SMBC comic. This second part has 2 panels. The man says he then remembers that no one has yet to live long past a century, and that all those people are dead, unrecoverable. Beyond the read of technology, no matter it's sophistication. This disappointment is shown in the image by having the line of past scholars turn to shadows behind the man.Part 3/4 of an 8-panel SMBC comic. This third part has 2 panels. The man then realizes that his young child is no different than the first human.Part 4/4 of an 8-panel SMBC comic. This final part has 2 panels. He lifts his baby, looking at him. The narration says "you aren't 200 of 2,000 years old. You are 200,000 years old. And I will show you EVERYTHING." The final panel shows the man carrying his baby to look at planes as he explains how they work.

Indeed. New grants are not getting funded, already funded grants are not getting paid, and non-competitive renewals are being held up. Focusing on the top line budget, instead of looking at what is really happening on “the ground” is deeply misguided.
