Okay so @defector.com has had an odd glitch since the site redesign a couple of weeks back where the wrong photo and headline are often put together on the main page and I was going to ask them about fixing it but this just happened and as far as I'm concerned they have to leave it as is.

I've tried off and on for something like 4 years to get David's original code converted into something modern. It has virtually no comments and he did some really weird array stuff & file writing to save memory. Now, finally, I have it. Except for single/double precision, got a *perfect* match. 🥳

Another consequence of the pattern this week will be a classic flash flooding rainfall pattern in the Midwest. Ensemble means are focused on Iowa and neighboring states. Could be some double-digit totals in there with record moisture pooling along a front stalled near the edge of the ridge.
