Coming to the end of summer means saying goodbye to our undergraduate students. Today is Will’s - our summer mitacs intern - last day. Next week will be Rinsy’s and Kriesha’s last day who have been with us for the last two years. We will miss them but excited for their next chapter!

The reviewing turn around expectation is getting silly. I got an email today asking to turn reviews around in one week. I usually ask if I can submit in 3-4weeks if interested, but noticed an uptick in either no response to that or no longer needing my review. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I just got #CIHR grant results back for an institute specific #ECR call. The success rate was 4.7%. While I appreciate ECR funding opportunities, what is the point at a success rate so low? This should have just been put in to the project grant competition.

This just keeps getting worse. For non-science people, we use commercial antibodies on a daily basis to detect proteins of interest using many methods. Bad antibodies mean bad results, which means a lot of medical research was wasted. I can't imagine the costs to trainees (their time), labs, etc.

CIHR has launched a trial ballon that suggests shifting to one competition a year. This is the worst idea I have heard in a long time. The only benefit is making top-line success rates look better than they are. Keep it as is, do in-person reviews, and keep the pain in the open.

The umbilical cord connects to the placenta NOT spine 2. The placenta should be in the uterus 3. The uterus should be in the pregnant person 🤦🏼‍♀️

13% success rates at #CIHR, is a really 87% fail rate for>4000 scientists. At a time when 🇨🇦 is investing millions to recruit more scientist into a broken funding environment. 🇨🇦, U need a strong science foundation 2 attract success. #CIHR, fix your science foundation, it is eroding in real time
