You should go and see Rachel. She's very good, but also, the balls it takes to do a post like this - in a climate where comedians are encouraged to post nothing but wins, forever - merits your attendance on its own.

So we're at the 'bashing beneficiaries' stage of the election campaign, eh? Tired ideas from right-wing politicians who want to punish people who they see as below them. Margaret Thatcher would be proud of their efforts. What next? Vouchers that can't be used for certain things in the supermarket?

I'm 52 so, hopefully, I have a few years left. In that time I want to live my life like Stevie Nicks staring at Lindsey Buckingham as she sings "I'll follow you down 'til the sound of my voice will haunt you". Goals, it's always good to have them.

It's one thing to be in the audience of a televised debate knowing you might be seen on screen at some points. It's quite another to have mainstream media stories written about you with multiple screenshots and a call to identify. Feels a bit weird and creepy to me.

In an election this tight, every vote matters But National changed the rules that always allowed Kiwis to register in a relaxed way in the 2 weeks prior to election This was voter suppression It is deeply undemocratic- potentially cutting 175,000 voters Get registered vote.nz/enrolling/en...

I resisted because I wasn't sure I needed to see a TV show about The Other Bennet Sister, but boy was I wrong. It was delightful and I cried (obviously) and Ella Bruccoleri was brilliant as Mary. My one annoyance? Ruth Jones as Mrs Bennet. Her character was one note annoying and it felt too much.

What point is a surplus when people can't eat? Taxes are paid to support people. At what cost has it taken to get a hairs breadth from surplus? Canceling ferries by text is not good fiscal governance when it cost the people too much. Taxpayer money wasted. Surplus??? www.stuff.co.nz/politics/361...

#NZpol Saw this excellent quote-reply to Simeon Brown’s latest attack on Labour. Worth sharing.
David Peez @RebelEkonomista

"The truck driver in Pakuranga helps pay off a lawyer's loan." No, Simeon. He doesn't. Not a cent.

When the government lends a student money, it creates the dollars and credits their account. No tradie's tax was collected and posted to a law degree. When the graduate repays, those dollars are deleted, drained back out like tax. They don't land in the truck driver's pocket either.

So nobody foots the bill. The worker and the graduate aren't on opposite sides of a ledger. Setting them against each other is the trick, and it runs on the same myth as "add it to the tab", that the government is a household counting coins. It issues the currency. The real limits are real resources and inflation, not a truck driver's tax bill.

"Someone always pays." Sure. Just never the person you keep pointing at.
