Spent the last couple of weekends going to suburban model engineering events - who knows how long it’ll be before Max decides he’s not into them any more? I love these places, the quiet efficiency, the sense of disparate people united by a shared obsession, the canny inventiveness and skill

Lovely article on Dial House, an absolutely beautiful place. When I went to interview Penny Rimbaud there for Out Of The Woods he told me amazing tall story, claiming to have knocked out the UK’s comms with the nuclear submarine fleet by flying a kite into the nearby Marconi military radio masts

I was perplexed by Jeres’ theory here BUT i put on Keep The Faith and he’s right! Also, Sleep When I’m Dead is an improved version of the awful Rocks by Primal Scream, dropping the cod-messianic rock & roll attitude of Bobby G with something that sounds more genuine. And a laugh.

I've banged on about it before but Michael Gillard's book Legacy, on corruption around land around London Olympics involving David Hunt, is a brilliant book. Hopefully this leads to prosecutions... and on the day that his top pal David Sullivan reveals he's suing the BBC too.

A morning walk in Epping Forest. Usually I do three or four a week but realised today that I'd not been since late June. It was too bleak in the heat over the summer, and allotment drudge got in the way. It's still so dry up there, the V-2 crater empty of water, a bright green circle of grass

Truth about all 6 Music contemporary band names. 1. All bands to have banal uninflected 2 word names - Wedding Guest; Nit Nurse. 2. If a band is called something like Ladywoman it’s all male; if it’s called Penis, all female; if it has no vowels or phonetic spelling, queer.

While I agree, I’m not entirely sure that our new local butcher (was a fish & chip shop, same people now apparently skilled in butchery) haven’t used AI to do their front signage (that chicken on the right seems to have skin over skin, those chops look v odd) so perhaps some passion might be welcome

It does seem mad that a few hundred metres from where these vans and potential wronguns were found there's a nondescript metal gate that'd give access to much of RAF Fairford & its parked aircraft, allowing anyone so inclined to hare around like the SAS in the 1942 raid on Sidi Haneish

This is a poor take that suggests Owen Jones doesn't know much about Russia in the 1990s, including Russia-US or wider Russia-West relations in the 1990s. By giving only one part of the story, he is repeating the Russian political elite's self-serving line that it was all the West's fault. Long 🧵
