The DOJ is more than three weeks late in delivering the Epstein Files. In those three weeks: - Trump declared himself acting President of Venezuela - ICE murdered a woman in Minnesota - Trump is preparing an invasion of a NATO ally - Trump initiated a criminal investigation of Fed Chair Powell

🚨 WA and other vote-by-mail states: The post office changed its postmark policy and no longer guarantees a postmark will be given on the date mail is received. For deadline sensitive mail, like ballots, this means that you need to mail far in advance (10+ days before) or use a drop box. #waelex

Making US Roads as safe as Canadian, Australian, or European roads would save more American lives (30,000 per year) than eliminating murder from the US (24,000 per year). Image with alt text:
Line chart titled “Making US Roads as Safe as Canadian, Australian, or European Roads Would Save More American Lives (30,000 per year) than Eliminating Murder From the US (24,000 per year).” The x-axis shows years from 2010 to 2024, and the y-axis shows death rate per 100,000 population. Multiple lines compare annual road fatality rates for the United States, European Union, Canada, and Australia, alongside U.S. murder and homicide rates. The U.S. road fatality rate is consistently much higher than peer countries, rising from about 11 to over 14 deaths per 100,000 around 2021 before slightly declining. EU, Canadian, and Australian road fatality rates cluster lower, generally between 4 and 6, with gradual declines over time. U.S. murder and homicide rates remain below U.S. road deaths but spike around 2020–2021.

Sources:

1. U.S. road fatality rate from the National Safety Council, “Motor Vehicle Historical Fatality Trends: Deaths and Rates,” injuryfacts.nsc.org.
2. European Union road fatalities from Eurostat, online data code “tran_sf_roadus,” accessed via the Eurostat Statistics Explained page titled “Road safety statistics in the EU.”
3. EU population figures from Eurostat, cited via Wikipedia’s “Demographics of the European Union.”
4. Canada road fatality rate from Transport Canada, using Canadian Motor Vehicle Traffic Collision Statistics for 2021 and 2022, from tc.canada.ca.
5. Australia road fatality rate from the World Health Organization, Global Health Observatory data, indicator “Estimated road traffic death rate per 100,000 population,” who.int.
6. U.S. murder rate from the FBI, cited via ConsumerShield’s “Murder Rate by Year.”
7. U.S. murder rate cross-checked using CDC data, ICD-10 assault codes X85–Y09, accessed through the CDC WONDER database, noting adjustment for widely criticized under-reporting.

We are beyond disappointed in SDOT's proposals here. Their plan of "exploring future options like dedicated bus lanes once key congestion issues are addressed" is completely nonsensical. You can't just wave a magic wand and get rid of the congestion on Denny. Bus lanes ARE the solution.

Katie Wilson isn’t just an excellent candidate for mayor. She’s also running an excellent campaign. This @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social mailer does a great job laying out solutions on homelessness and contrasting it with Bruce Harrell’s failures.

Harrell has been the single biggest obstacle to light rail construction, wasting time and money granting his corporate donors’ requests to change station placement. Are you actually paying attention to what’s going on in your city? www.kuow.org/stories/wher... publicola.com/2023/03/28/c...

One of the reasons Katie is running for mayor is that she wants housing to be affordable for all of our residents. Housing costs have doubled since Bruce Harrell first took office. Social housing is one important part of that puzzle. Let’s talk about it!

Nothing to see here, just your average experience on Route 8 (thanks @juanjpg.bsky.social for the video!) • Bus takes 16 minutes to go one block • Riders give up halfway and just start walking • 2 other buses manage to catch up in the meantime

Endorsement: Katie Wilson for Seattle Mayor
Katie Wilson not only attended the Race the L8 event to advocate for bus route improvements, she rode the 8 to get there. Bruce Harrell did not attend. From Katie Wilson for Seattle via Bluesky. Katie Wilson is a bus-riding mama who gets shit done. She seeks out and fosters genuine community relationships, works with folks to identify problems within city government that are holding people back, and then she creates unstoppable public momentum to get solutions passed into law.
