Seattleites are most concerned about traffic safety because we all experience it regularly: narrowly missing getting hit while walking in a crosswalk, seeing people using center turn lanes as their personal speedway, etc. Most people also know someone who has died or been seriously injured:
Info graphic showing most people will know 6 people who die in a car crash and 28 who have major injuries

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

Working with progressive Council allies, the Emerald City's newest chief executive has begun delivering changes residents can see and feel, but her first budget proposal raises harder questions about sustaining public services and meeting the city’s needs.

People don’t understand how fragile our water infrastructure is. I’ve had contaminated water in the last six years. I’ve had my water co. hijacked for digital ransom. We are in perpetual near drought conditions... in NC, not AZ. AI boosters use pedantry about water use as an accountability shield.

Important read here. The climate adaptation status quo is heading really bad places: mainstream insurance companies drop homeowners en mass, leaving them to scammy, unregulated companies that can declare bankruptcy and cut town after a major storm.

Thanks for asking, KUOW! Yes, we are winning for renters: from banning pet rent and other rental junk fees, to adding density throughout our City, to SEPA reform, to my Executive Order streamlined permitting, our renter majority city is seeing real improvements to affordability…
Screenshot of a KUOW article titled, “Seattle Mayor Wilson still rents. Can she help her fellow renters?” with a photo of Mayor Wilson. Screenshots from the articles that say,
“Zohran Mamdani lives in Gracie Mansion. Karen Bass lives in the Getty House. The mayors of Portland, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Chicago all own their own homes.

But Katie Wilson, mayor of Seattle, still rents in the same century-old brick apartment building as before the election last year.

Property records say it's 700 square feet, but the original listing said 650, according to Wilson.

This year, Wilson has banned "junk fees" like pet rent and required landlords to be upfront about other fees, signed legislation or issued executive orders to cut through red tape or overcome procedural roadblocks to building housing, and moved toward upzoning, parts of the city to allow taller, denser buildings.”

No strike! A tentative agreement has been reached! School will start tomorrow in Seattle schools! I’m glad students and educators are getting what they need (and I hope the state steps up and fixes their funding).
Håfa Adai & Hello Seattle families,
We have a TA!
With the support of famlies and community members like yours, our Bargaining Team has reached a tentative agreement that gives students and educators more of what we need.
This means we will NOT be calling a strike and
SEA members will be welcoming our students back to school tomorrow.
This is a credit to every single person who showed up, wore red, talked with friends and neighbors, emailed the school board, shared their story, or took action. We all won this together.
We won an 18-month collaborative community process to improve Special Education services, among other changes that bring students and educators more of what we need.
Thank you for bearing with us and for your support. We are stronger together.

Why Seattle renters are suddenly the envy of all
Seattle recently took aim at rental fees, which can add hundreds of dollars to housing bills every month. Renters across the region now ask, what about us?
