In the single biggest breach of professionalism I’ve ever had, I stoped taking notes and all-but-shouted “MY BOY MERCUTIO LITERALLY GOT KNIFED IN GANG VIOLENCE SO TWO TEENS COULD HAVE SEX WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?” my boss ‘bout fell out of her chair laughing none of the three M4L had read R&J

The legislator I work for and I once met with Moms for Liberty in good faith to listen to them and consider their view point They spent the entire hour talking about the “fifth with sex & gang violence kids read these days” and asked “why don’t they read the classics like Romeo and Juliet anymore?”

Divest from Harry Potter and JKR, y'all. It's okay to feel sad about no longer engaging with something that meant a lot to you, but a fictional world that funds a very real assault on trans rights will never be more meaningful than caring about the safety of trans folks.

Y’all, I hate to rain on the dead bot parade, but the Yandex data center destruction doesn’t seem to have significantly impacted social media bots. I made temporal graphs of X posts about AfD around the time of the attack and there’s no sign of a sudden dip or residual impact on that conversation.

"what happens to small, community building driven colleges when they pivot to AI" is such a good question if the entire promise of your college is that you are going to bring people together and then you decide to... not do that, how do you expect to actually survive while abandoning your mission

just a reminder the next time you consider arguing with a person who is demanding you prove AIs aren't alive: it's not your job to prove a negative. it's their job to prove the affirmative of their argument. you are arguing with a brick wall

I think that if millennials/gen Z work together we can drive HOAs to the breaking point
Kyle
My HOA once charged me $75 because my trash can was visible from the street for approximately six minutes. So now I use the anonymous form on their website to report myself for having grass that's too long. Sandra has to walk all the way over with a ruler and measure it once a week. It's important to stay involved in your community.

Ross's thesis seems to be that if fiction were more masculine in its themes, men would read more. But there's plenty of masculine fiction available and men don't read more of it. They just don't read as much as women--across the board.

Any convo about why adults aren't reading need to start at why kids *stop* reading. The reasons for that are myriad, complex, and interconnected. They often revolve around level of parental involvement, access to a library, and the way schools treat reading. You get men to read by funding schools.
