Even in 2026 you can see a new photo of young John & Paul in Liverpool and it blows yer mind. They were just kids, did they know they were gonna change the world?

For lack of clear rules about the use of AI in classrooms, it’s difficult to steer students toward slow, close reading and analysis. So I’m pretty sure that I’m gonna return to reading together in class and bluebook-style assignments next year.

“Fascism is capitalism in crisis” is a pretty reasonable formula. It’s backed by a lot of history. If you were going to propound just one thesis from the repertoire of the immortal science of dialectical materialism you could do a lot worse than this one

Another element of 1990s nostalgia that often gets ignored is how the USA was gaga for Celtic and New Age music. Remember those CD kiosks in the big box stores?

A digital illustration of Max Headroom, a shiny, fast/talking electric man who lived inside a TV who we all liked in the 80s. He has a very tall head with an odd stripey blond hair cut and a goofy grin. He’s wearing white wayfarers and a shiny white, wide shouldered jacket over a lilac colored shirt and black bow tie. The background is intersecting colored perspective lines sort of forming the idea of a box. Colorful type following the perspective of the walls reads ‘MAYBE IT WILL HAPPEN TODAY’.

Camus famously argued that there was an ethical imperative to be neither victims nor executioners; I would add that in this day and age it is equally important, and equally difficult, to be neither marks nor grifters.
