One of the most visionary leaders in the history of The Smithsonian (his appointment is titled "The Secretary"), and the DC heritage sector. Up there with Archibald McLeish at the Library of Congress. Bunch's example positioned memory and recognition as central to preservation and curation.

Looks like I’ll be the director of an academic conference as part of University of Colorado’s new partnership with the Sundance Film Festival, coming to Boulder in January. It’ll be baby steps this year, but there will be a lot to plan for January 2028.

Looks like the Library of Congress project that I direct has been renewed for another three years. What is this project? I'd characterize it as a synthesis of applied policy, media preservation, political economy of memory research, and public humanities research.

The answer is that everyone reads all day long, probably at a greater pace and breath than any time in human history. They just don’t read linearly and in the same organized fashion as before. This is a transitional time, and reading practices will recalibrate.
