A really good thread-

I've emailed my MP about this- please do the same if you live in or near Somerset or care about live theatre. Medium-sized theatres like the Brewhouse play an important role, and it seems inconceivable to me that it should close down.

Simple solution: schools scrap blazers, ties and fancy P.E. kits for simple polo shirts and jumpers. It's ludicrous when there is so little funding available in education that it should be going towards unnecessary uniform costs rather than actual learning resources.

The most dangerous thing about AI is not that the machines might one day think. It is that we are being trained, by men with enormous financial gains riding on our acquiescence, to stop thinking for ourselves.

This is a self-indulgent moan, but I need to feel seen. Life for single parents is hard. Lonely, exhausting, relentless, intense. A hard day at work- get home and straight into caring. A hard morning at home- off to work and more caring. Giving so much of yourself. Just wanting to be looked after.

So frustrating looking at online y6 teacher groups. So many schools cutting back on foundation subjects for constant SATS revision, booster sessions and 'clubs'. I strongly believe that this is wrong- SATS should be testing the curriculum taught normally- but if we don't do it, we are penalised.

It never ceases to confound me just how many folks think the point of essays is to provide teachers with essays. That teachers just like, collect them, or need them for sustenance or something. Rather than the point of them being the *actual fucking act of learning how to think about shit*

I am passionate about state schooling. But that is not the only way children can get a good education- and for many families, it currently isn't a viable way. I have witnessed home education at close hand and, honestly, it can be better than anything that schools currently offer.

It reminds of being at university: some struggling to survive on their student loans while others invested theirs so they'd have a nice deposit for a house. One of my mum's friends said to her, "Lucy ought to invest hers too, it's much more sensible," and Mum had to point out I needed it to live!

Also, in a one-form primary school (or smaller), who do they think is facilitating this and where is it happening? Most primaries do not have staff available to support this nor do they have spaces for it to happen. Every adult and every space is being used, every minute of the day.

Skills levels vary considerably across demographics, with women less likely than men to feel confident using Al at work (16% vs 26%), [tootnote 7 and uptake of Al training differing by sector. For instance, among those who have heard of Al, 34% of men feel confident in their ability to judge the truthfulness of Al outputs compared to 21% of women, and women are less

One thing I think would make a huge difference: more value put on quality childminders and incentives for early years experts to consider this as a career. Very small children get so much from being in a loving home environment and their entire family becomes part of a wonderful extended family.

It's becoming impossible to deny (a) the levels of needs we are seeing in settings and schools (b) the issues with attendance and exclusion rates and (c) that rigid approaches don't align with an inclusive system. Something has to change. We have to work with the children and families as they are.

The main reason that I don't want AI generating anything for me is because I like to do the majority of my thinking and creating for myself. And the stuff I can't do, I'd rather pay other people to help me do than farm it out to profit for technology companies.
