Obsessed with Damascus goats lately. They look like they were created by H. R. Giger. They both looks and sound stupid as hell. An utter catastrophe of an animal. I love them.

You exist because of a crime, because of a curse, and because of a trick. The crime was my brother's, though I enabled it, and so shared the punishment; the curse was my sister's, and I sought to undermine it; but the trick -- well, the trick was mine, and you were born of it.

If you want to know what people are going to do or why, the average person Does Not Want to Have to Think About This. What is an important issue to them? Something that they have to think about now but didn't have to before. What is a good solution? Whatever means they don't have to think about it.

Just a reminder that "male gaze" is specifically an art theory term about stripping women of their interior lives to reduce them to mere sex objects. If you think it's a blanket "this has the potential to make guys horny" you're just doing sparkling gender essentialism

Today I found out that Umberto Eco crafted a version of this meme in the 1980s…
Beware the
alibi of photocopies ! Photocopies are indis-
pensable instruments. They allow you to keep with you a text you have already read in the library, and to take home a text you have not read yet. But a set of photocopies can become an alibi. A student makes hundreds of pages of photocopies and takes them home, and the manual labor he exercises in doing so gives him the impression that he possesses the work. Owning the photocopies exempts the student from actually reading them. This sort of vertigo of accumulation, a neocapitalism of information, happens to many. Defend yourself from this trap: as soon as you have the photocopy, read it and annotate it immediately. If you are not in a great hurry, do not photocopy something new before you own (that is, before you have read and annotated) the previous set of photocopies. There are many things that I do not know because I photocopied a text and then relaxed as if I had read it.

An illustration by R.F. Schabelitz for the cover of HARPER'S WEEKLY (February 6, 1909). Technically a Valentine's cover, but I think it has enough Halloween vibes to work for October. 😘🕸️ Schabelitz was mostly a "slick" illustrator, but he occasionally slummed it in the romance pulps. #pulp
In a somewhat surreal image, a white man and a white woman are tangled in a spiderweb that's in the shape of a heart (fighting against the edges to try to get out, etc.). A cherubic Cupid is on all fours at the bottom, seemingly crawling away, while mischievously looking up at the couple in the heart. He wears a spider costume of sorts, with three long hairy extra legs dangling down on each side of him, contrasting adorably with the little wings coming out of his back.
