Team Human. They are on Team Posthuman. They care about our species surviving long enough to create "aligned" ASI. Once that happens, our species SHOULD die out. These people are not your friends--they are your enemies, insofar as you value humanity. All the quotes can be found

once posthumanity arrives via "aligned" ASI. If what you care about is our species' survival -- i.e., avoiding terminal extinction -- then these people are literal *pro-extinctionists*. DO NOT BE FOOLED by their rhetoric; by the sneaky language games they play!! They are NOT on

they really mean when they say, "We must avoid human extinction" is: "We must avoid final human extinction." Once posthumanity arrives, most don't give a SHIT whether OUR SPECIES persists. Indeed, as I have documented in tremendous detail, many WANT terminal extinction to happen

Terminal extinction is the disappearance of our species, full stop. Final extinction is the disappearance of our species such that we don't leave behind any (worthy) posthuman successors. Since TESCREALists want a cosmic utopia/posthuman paradise through "aligned" ASI, what

With all this talk about human extinction right now, I am BEGGING people to understand the difference between TERMINAL and FINAL extinction. TESCREALists *only* care about final extinction, but nearly the entire public *misinterprets* them as warning about terminal extinction.

as always amazing writing and clarity from Meg! as someone who uses these systems a lot - the category error of treating AI systems as conscious when they make less mistakes is the issue. the most advanced models STILL make errors of types humans would know how to avoid.

As a fan of both you & Emily, I'll just point out something maybe obvious: Searching web, extraction, etc., isn't an LLM. That's engineered code/functions used alongside an LLM; the distinction between an "AI system" and an LLM (I wrote a thing about this here: medium.com/@margarmitch...) 1/

the reason that it matters that AI Safety is a sex cult in Berkeley are: * it’s a closed group of people, * with a poor mental model of human behavior as a whole, * a poor sense of boundaries, and * engaged in practices that amplify the strength of their belief in absurd ideas

it has never been more clear to me that the "AGI-pilled" are basically an end-times cult, that has all of the money and very few restrictions on power it does not have to be this way. (screenshot from) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
Screenshot of an article. Text:
"...Because the evidence [on AI] is so muddled, belief has instead taken over, often couched in existential terms. AI researchers may present themselves as deeply rational, but many sound like shamans. [highlighted by user] The researcher Ilya Sutskever reportedly led OpenAI staffers in a chant of 'Feel the AGI! Feel the AGI!' and on another occasion burned a wooden effigy that was supposed to represent 'unaligned AI.' In his 'Techno-Optimist Manifesto,' the billionaire venture capitalist Marc Andreessen proclaimed, 'I am here to bring the good news,' cribbing a line from a biblical angel. [end highlight]

"'The manifest destiny of AI research is to produce this thing they're calling AGI,' [Melanie] Mitchell said, 'and they want to do it as soon as possible, so they're less willing to trade off for more interpretable, more predictable, more controllable models.' Treating the achievement of AGI as the only outcome that matters, she said, is 'a dangerous way to go forward.'"

Page 1, 3 panels. Panel 1: group of friends in a public party setting. A guy asks one of the girls, “you’ve really never heard of Animorphs?” The girl laughs, “never!” Panel 2: later, the girl is now alone and unlocking the door to her apartment. Panel 3: as she enters the apartment, she morphs into a wildebeest. She thinks to herself, “no one can know.”
