I’m (not) sorry for what I said while watching sports. Or the news.

There's nothing that a coffee can't sort out. Maybe except TNT sports mispronouncing Madueke.

Declan Rice has been terrible on the ball all game, so what does he do? Brilliant turning, backheel flick to assist a goal.

He was always a liar and he’s still a liar and ever since he’s been in the political eye for the last ten years he’s never been incredibly sharp or disciplined, but it’s much much worse now than even a handful of years ago.

It’s seriously worth watching a clip of Trump even just from 2020 if you have some doubt about how much he’s declined since then. And I don’t even mean to make a diagnosis at a distance. I mean he’s slower and slurrier and demonstrably less able to think on his feet.

Absolutely steaming at that last refereeing sequence. Gudmundsson committed two or three fouls on Jurrien Timber, threw himself to the ground under the faintest contact, and got the call.

(Jokes aside, there’s a reason the NFL punishes that foul harshly, it’s incredibly dangerous. That should be treated as violent conduct)

Horse collar tackle on Bruno there, that’s 15 yards and a personal foul

Those types of fouls (Justin grabbing from behind on Bruno as Arsenal are breaking with numbers up) should be red cards.

Trump and Hegseth are intent on extending such barbarism into the 21st century. Not only that, but they want to livestream the degrading spectacle, bringing it fully into the digital age. In this and countless other ways, they continue to degrade and demean America.

We are a 10/10 team in 2/3 of the pitch but more often than not, a 6/10 team in the last third. Too many good moves, good positions, good turnovers result in nothing at all because the final ball is poor or missing altogether. 62 passes in the final third vs 10 but outshot 4-3

I have a lot of thoughts about the plan to execute a man on livestream, ranging from the depravity of execution as spectacle to the irony of executing a man who wanted to be part of ISIL on camera. But I feel gratitude for the moral luck I have to recognize killing as wrong, to feel that.

I don’t know what any of this means politically other than I don’t think it’s a good thing if the place the administration has the *highest* approval in is saying “we need help” and “don’t make promises you can’t keep”. There isn’t a credible promise to make that these people that they’d accept.

InB4 “they deserve it” but if you want to know why I think Republican base voter turnout will be depressed is that the consequences are beginning to bite. I think we’re going to see a lot of malnutrition in the United States in the next few years. I don’t know what that means politically.

also, while we still execute far too many people in this country, death sentences peaked in 2000 and have been in decline for the last quarter century. there are multiple causes for that, but one *big* one is democratic lawmaker (and voter) efforts to limit or eliminate them when they have the power

i take issue with the idea that dems play a central role in executions. at the federal level, no dem president has overseen an execution since JFK. at the state level, there are more than i would like, but they’re typically states with purple or red legislatures.
One more thing about the death penalty before going offline. As disgusted as we should be by Trump's bloodlust, we should NOT lose sight of the CENTRAL role of Democrats in upholding, expanding, and enabling this system that seems to horrify so many people right now. It really cannot be said enough

City governments are going to have to be both creative and bold when it comes to resisting ICE and the most obvious place to start here is pulling all, all, all NYPD cooperation, even incidental, with ICE. Let them do their own crowd control and traffic management.

One of the many problems with cops and ICE agents who were too dumb to be hired as cops is that while some people want the job because it gives good benefits and an early pension, a lot want the job because they fantasize about doing violence to people and being a cop gives them that opportunity.

Reread about the Ft. Hood shooting due to this, and some of the soldiers there showed massive bravery in attempting to, unarmed, stop him that day. Just pissing all over what that represented by giving him a chance to win the argument at the 11th hour and turning his death into a like and subscribe.

Yeah I sort of abstractly oppose the execution of Nidal Hasan on abstract principle grounds, but I’d be lying if I’d said it in of itself was something I thought was a relatively massive injustice. But live-streaming it is so massively degrading and humiliating.

The character of American fascism is perpetual victimhood like a sniveling bully who never expected to be punched in the nose. They will double down on this posturing of how tough they are yet also unfairly beset by the hate and harms of their nemeses.
