Don't have much of a personal opinion on whether Renee Slegers should stay or go, but it's tough to see her surviving this poor start and tough stretch.

My 2 cents (as somebody who isn't in the room for press conferences): coaches / athletes should be given grace for stuff like this if it's an exceedingly rare thing. We're all human. Our emotions can get the better of us. But you get, like, two over the course of a career.

Toure, Adebayor, Clichy, Nasri, Sagna - all players Manchester City lured away from Arsene Wenger's Arsenal in his final decade at the club. In '16-'17, the year the CL streak snapped, City finished 3rd to Arsenal's 5th. Arsene didn't get the sendoff he deserved b/c of City's cheating.

Thinking even of this summer, and the Elliot Anderson fee's impact on every single deal to follow. It's hard to fathom how much this has altered everything.

I really do not see how the Premier League or other clubs can continue to exist with Manchester City in their fold in anything resembling the club's current form. They have demonstrated total contempt for the rules and regulations that make the organization function and bind the clubs together.

In addition to the decade of rule-breaking, Manchester City also tried to hide their infractions by not cooperating with the duly empowered investigators, just as they did with UEFA in 2020. Even if they hadn't been cheating, there is no justifying or defending that part.

From Gabriel's reactions on both of Brighton's first two goals, it seems like the defense wasn't on the same page on either goal. He was clearly expecting someone to do something or be somewhere they weren't.

Bruno had a particularly poor game, unfortunately.

There's really nothing that I saw today from Arsenal to create any concern going forward. Pretty much everybody had a bad game at the same time against a team that was playing well.

There's just absolutely no reason for Yalcouye to run into Declan Rice from behind. He got what he deserved for it and Rice was properly booked for sticking up for himself.

That's precisely who Brighton are under Fabian Hurzeler, by the way. He's a prick and he's made his side into a bunch of pricks.

Nice to finish the match off with a bit more shit officiating. Yalcouye took three or four extra steps to crash into Declan Rice's back. So Rice intentionally tripped him. Rice correctly booked. Brighton man absolutely should have been booked, too.

Good for you, Declan Rice.

That ball in the mixer off the corner could have wound up anywhere and it just kinda sat there at people's feet until it got knocked away.

It's truly something the dichotomy between the fouls blown against Viktor Gyokeres and the things defenders can do to him without being whistled for a foul.

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Way over hit from Riccardo Calafiori. He had plenty of time and space to pick out a better ball and didn't. Been that kind of day!

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
It's the EXACT type of play that everybody fawns all over Brian Brobbey for making and a foul that Brobbey got called more than once against Arsenal.

Gyokeres pins his man, gets held, then thrown to the ground. No call.

Max Dowman replaces Bukayo Saka.

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
That was really good from Viktor Gyokeres to win the ball in the middle and dink it over the defense to put Kai Havertz in on goal.
1110
The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Kai Havertz clear in on goal, shoots pretty much right at Verbruggen. At least if you're going to do that, do it a 3-0 down.

Did the Monstars steal Martin Zubimendi's skill?

Tough bouncing ball but you'd hope / expect Bukayo Saka to do more from that position.

Think the referee just allowed Brighton's players to call a handball on Gyokeres.

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Ebere Eze and Viktor Gyokeres coming on for Arsenal. Replacing Christos Tzolis and Martin Ødegaard.

Struijk booked for re-entering the pitch too early, I think.

Foul on Bukayo Saka. Steps inside his man and is stopped from breaking away because the fullback grabs him. Uncalled.

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Ipswich have had a man shown a second yellow for a dive. Must be nice, eh?

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Kai Havertz being pretty clearly held down from jumping to challenge for that ball in. Doesn't end up matter but weren't we assured that all this attacking holding on corners would be called?

Get up, Kostoulas. You're fine and you know it.

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Grabbing the keeper from behind as he runs up to distribute the ball should be an automatic yellow card.

Bruno and Jurrien Timber come off. Replaced by Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi. Horrible day from Bruno.

Nah. Not a foul, though.

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Did a Brighton player on a yellow card just dive in the box again...?
091
The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
There is definite contact on David Raya, but Declan Rice is bodying the man, too. Not going to get that call. I'd bet it gets called against Arsenal, though.

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
3-0. Brighton score from a corner. Not really sure what was going on with the marking. David Raya felt he was impeded.

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Arsenal feel better to start the second half. Important to get something out of it to get it to 2-1.

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Maybe one day referees won't change the Laws for players already on a booking. If it's a booking, it's a booking. Don't do yellow card things if you're on a yellow card.
0255
The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Isn't Kadioglu on a booking? That should be him off. No question in my mind. Cowardly refereeing.

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Not really sure that wasn't a booking for diving for Kadioglu...

Bruno has been really poor. Another horribly misplaced pass under very little pressure.

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Really good from Ezri Konsa.
010
The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
How do you miss that? Clearly should be another corner to Arsenal.

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Now would be an excellent time for Arsenal to score their first set piece goal of the season against a Brighton side that have struggled to defend them. Alas.
0100
The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
In all my years of watching football, I don't think I've ever seen an effective pressing system that didn't rely on the referee not calling obvious fouls.
252
The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
And we start the second half just as much of the first went. Jurrien Timber plays the ball, moves around his man, who moves to block him (foul). Nothing called and Arsenal, instead of being able to progress the ball further, have to recycle possession and are pressed into a mistake.
031
The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
Does anybody believe that Arsenal aren't capable of pulling this one back? They definitely can and knowing that they can is a darn good feeling that we haven't had in a long time.

The Short Fuse @theshortfuse.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
The pass into space for Martin Ødegaard by Riccardo Calafiori was so bad. Took him much, much wider than it needed to.
