There's multiple overlapping communities in my WIP with conflicting values and agendas - all of them dangerous. A central tension in the story is the protag trying to stay true to her humanity (while having to hide it) when the communities around her want to dehumanize, exploit or destroy.

Plenty of people quite rightfully reminiscing on Tim Curry's myriad starring roles, but I'll always be particularly fond of his voice acting for Arl Howe in Dragon Age: Origins. A sneering, contemptuous antagonist that you just love to hate, Curry gave him pure venom.

Having finally seen the movie and read this piece, I can now say that they’re both good, but damn, she misses the point big time here. The entire structure of the movie, the entire Athena thing and the way the movie presents it & then only spells it out at the end IS what it has to say

as air. In comparison with other blockbusters
—such as, say, the Die Hard films, also action-packed tales of one man's dangerous journey back to his wife—The Odyssey contains far more pontificating about values and civilizational decline, but much less coherence and less heart. It gestures at a critique of xenophobia and violence, but it focuses primarily on the perspective of the guilty, traumatized warrior rather than that of his victims. Moreover, the movies devoted attention to mechanics, and its heedless willingness to give us massacres as spectacle, undermines its moralizing claims of caring about man's inhumanity to man. Verbally, we are told that people matter; visually, we are shown that they do not.
