Thanks, that's very interesting! It sounds like it almost started out a little back-to-front, and identity about a values set before interesting stories emerged that established genre conventions. I'll have to try and do some reading in it at some point.

I've yet to read any Solarpunk stories (I do like the visual aesthetics), but my immediate question is - what is the punk element? What is Solar punk rebelling against and critiquing? Surely not solar powered societies? Is it essentially utopian literature rather than punk?

I have no idea how this happened, but in high school history class we had a focus on the Genro period and then the Sakura faction and wave of assassinations and the emergence of the Kodo Ha. We spent a lot of time on it! I'm now thinking it must have been because our teacher just really wanted to.

The question is probably rhetorical but the answer is: Andrew Stanton really wanted to make it and was on a roll with his Pixar directing + Disney wanted a "star wars" adventure franchise and weren't yet able to buy Star Wars. I mostly enjoyed it but it was not a great idea for an adaptation.

So I loved Dragon Age 2 despite its many obvious flaws, but it was not well received to say the least. However the soundtrack by Inon Zur was sublime and very distinct through its focused instrument choices in a genre that can end up with very generic fantasy orchestral music.

Watts did such a great job with Skeleton Crew (it's their best show after Andor), so he's an excellent and experienced choice. If they manage to get this movie off the ground I'll be very excited! Also, given this is not official yet, take THR's "skywalker saga" framing with a big grain of salt.

I'm typically very forgiving of movies, and I'm even more tolerant of Star Wars movies and shows, even when they have a lot of narrative/craft issues. I even went into TROS optimistically! But TROS was unfortunately just a poorly conceived and executed film with nothing to say & also not much fun.

There's multiple overlapping communities in my WIP with conflicting values and agendas - all of them dangerous. A central tension in the story is the protag trying to stay true to her humanity (while having to hide it) when the communities around her want to dehumanize, exploit or destroy.
