I was 4 yrs old. I saw Japanese on the bottom of a toy. I was shocked my dad couldn’t read it & “people on the other side of the Earth read it”! I decided then that one day I would read it. In my teens I learned. I lived in Japan 3 years, got married, had kids. It’s been part of my career for 25 yrs

Are schools asking parents to buy laptops for pupils? 💻 A primary teacher asked us after her daughter's school requested one — so we checked. State primary: 0% ask parents to buy Independent primary: 20% do State secondary: just 2% expect all pupils to buy Independent secondary: 36% do
Infographic titled "Are schools asking parents to buy laptops for their students?" with a pink circular badge reading "Asked by a Teacher Tapper!" Below are four rounded boxes in shades of green/mint with text. First: "In state primary schools, 0% ask parents to buy devices, 27–29% provide devices and the majority say no device is needed at all." Second: "In independent primary schools, 20% ask parents to provide or recommend a laptop, 50% provide devices, and 29% say no device is needed." Third: "In state secondary schools, only 2% expect all pupils to buy a device. The most common response? No device needed — 65% in LAs and 63% in Trusts." Fourth: "Again, independent secondary schools differ — 36% expect all pupils to buy a device." At the bottom, text reads "Got a question you'd like to have answered to help you with a topic in school? Get in touch on Teacher Tapp," with App Store and Google Play badges, set against a light grey background with faint speech bubble decorations.

Thatcherism via the Walkman: Stuart Hall’s British cultural studies preserved online
Wife of Jamaica-born sociologist says project celebrates ‘incredible contributions’ he made to Britain’s culture Whether it was Thatcherism, populism or the story of the Sony Walkman, Stuart Hall was a public intellectual famed for defining the times. Now a major digital archive of his previously unpublished papers, notebooks, recordings and videos has been launched. The Jamaica-born sociologist and seminal figure in postwar Black British history died in 2014 aged 82, with his obituary in the Guardian saying he was “among the first to identify key questions of the age”. Hall coined the term Thatcherism and in 1985 warned of the dangers of “authoritarian populism”. Continue reading...

Did you know you only need a small brain to make silly little drawings?
4 panel comic:
Panel 1: pink blob guy on a table, pencil in their hands. Grey circle on a piece of paper and a glass of water on the table. They say “look here”
Panel 2: Proudly, they hold up the drawing of a grey blobby character on two stick legs up in the air. The pink blob says “I drew this!”
Panel 3: Satisfied they sit back down on the table. They now go “it’s not much, but..” The grey drawing looks a bit peeved because the drawer is calling it “not much”
Panel 4: But it’s okay, because now the pink blob is very pleased finally. He says “it came from my brain!” Holding the pencil up. The grey drawing blob is happy again, too. End well, all well!
