We are a group of people in Leicestershire who want better local transport options. Primarily safe walking wheeling and cycling routes to schools, shops and transport hubs. We want safer quieter local streets and see active travel as the key enabler.

Cycling in #London used to be derided as a niche activity. An edge case, suitable for quaint ye-olde-citties but not relevant to a thrusting modern capital city 10 years of investment in infrastructure to attract a mainstream user base has made #cycling a mainstream mode in the heart of the #City.

Decades ago, I supported mandatory helmet laws for people riding bikes. Then I was convinced by evidence and the bigger picture that such laws are actually counter-productive in many ways. This NZ article explains some. I support helmets, but not mandatory helmet laws. Build safe infrastructure.

Legislation to enable local leaders to prohibit pavement parking in England has been included in the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill. Some of our supporters have been telling us what new freedoms this will bring them.

Yes this! Exactly the problem here in rural Leicestershire. A network of paths between villages is needed otherwise they are cut off and car dependent. Yet it is sooo difficult and slow to create them. I have been fighting for 5 years for a small section of dismantled railway & expect a few more.

People are space-efficient. Successful cities realise this and make it as easy as possible for thousands, hundreds of thousands, even millions of people to get to into the city...and as pleasant as possible once they are there. This is incompatible with mass motorisation at a city scale. #geometry

Make it safer for families to walk and cycle to schools please! Use school streets or LTNs, and encourage a bike bus to make it fun. Then you give children independence and an appreciation of cycling that will stay with them for life.

The 1984 photo shows a road running under the twin archways of a school building, with wide vehicle lanes. "School Streets" have become a thing to watch. Even the loudest high-traffic neighbourhood trumpets will mumble "Except outside schools, of course", but this ignores how (1) kids don't live next to their schools and need to get to the School Street safely and (2) kids go to places that aren't school
