The Association For Frontotemporal Degeneration @theaftd.bsky.social · 05/05/2026
Real change starts with real voices. 🎤 By becoming an advocate for frontotemporal degeneration, you can help raise awareness, influence policy, and push for better care and research. 🗣️ You don’t need to be an expert—just willing to speak up. Become an advocate here: bit.ly/4tzskL3
A person stands at a podium speaking to an audience, with the AFTD logo above. The text reads: "Your story has the power to change policy. Become an advocate for FTD and help ensure it is a priority for lawmakers, researchers, and communities nationwide."A person in a suit holds a microphone and clipboard, speaking. The AFTD logo is at the top. Text reads: "When advocates speak up, people listen." A section titled "Advocacy helps drive" lists "Earlier diagnoses, Better care, Increased research funding." Another section titled "Get Involved" includes "Share your story, Connect with lawmakers, Raise awareness."

Now online! CRISPR screens in iPSC-derived neurons reveal principles of tau proteostasis

CRISPR screens in iPSC-derived neurons reveal principles of tau proteostasis
CRISPR screens in iPSC-derived neurons reveal that the E3 ubiquitin ligase CRL5SOCS4 ubiquitinates tau, that CUL5 expression is correlated with resilience in human Alzheimer’s disease, and that electron transport chain dysfunction alters tau degradation by the proteasome.

Harvard Health reports on the recent ruling that the makers of Prevagen can no longer claim their #supplement improves #memory. The author recommends being wary about supplement marketing claims, which are often false, misleading, or based on insufficient research.
Supplements: too good to be true? The dietary supplement industry in the United States is estimated to be worth $70 billion or more. The supplement market grew by 50% from 2018 to 2020. It is estimated that 100,000 unique supplements are currently available for purchase. The FDA requires the following disclosure be displayed on the package of all supplements: "These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure, or prevent any disease." Be skeptical of any supplement that is marketed with claims contrary to that disclosure. Always consult with your primary care provider before starting or stopping any supplement regimen. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
