I understand and share the impulse to blame university administrators. I have written plenty about them. But right now I’d like us to turn the focus to Minnesota politicians and Minnesota voters and ask what functions of the university do you want to see cut? What don’t you care about Amy Klobuchar?

Y'all asked us for seasonally-appropriate Halloween tours, so you get them! No literal ghosts or jumpscares on these (we recommend @baltimoreghosts.bsky.social for that!), but we're not kidding about the disquieting part. More info in flyer ⬇️ & at this link fullstorybaltimore.tours/our-tours/#h...
A colorful flyer with various tour photos interspersed with the following text:

Full Story Baltimore’s
Countdown to Halloween 2026

Coming this October: three weeks of disquieting lantern-lit walking tours

Baltimore’s Confederate Shadows: Mount Vernon to Midtown
Wednesday, October 14, 7:30pm
Saturday, October 17, 8:00pm
Let’s talk about Baltimore’s most uneasy ghosts (metaphorical!), the ghastly people—Confederates and secessionist sympathizers—behind some of our beloved local institutions

Baltimore’s Confederate Shadows: Wyman Park and Charles Village
Friday, October 23, 8:00pm
Sunday, October 25, 7:30pm
It’s time to shine a light on the monstrous (long-dead) humans and real-life gothic horrors that lurk in the histories of this part of town—and it’s long past time for a reckoning

Radical Spirits in Reservoir Hill
Wednesday, October 28, 7:00pm
Friday, October 30, 7:30pm
This one’s a palate cleanser after the previous two—atmospheric Victorian architecture, with inspirational stories of community organizing & direct action

Just did another @fullstorybaltimore.tours with @actualkatherine.bsky.social, “Radical Spirits in Right Field.” Y’all should go on some tours so that you can learn about total fucking Baltimore badasses like Frances Ellen Watkins Harper here. 10/10 highly recommend
A small framed historical marker dedicated to Frances Ellen Watkins Harper (1825-1911). It features a woodcut-like illustration of her and this text below: “This poet, novelist, orator, and essayist was born in Baltimore on September 24, 1825, and was the only child of her free parents. After she was orphaned as a child, she lived with an aunt on Camden Street and attended a school for free African Americans which was on Sharp Street and was run by her uncle, William J. Watkins. After her formal education, she worked as a live-in maid with a white family, the Armstrongs, whose bookstore and family library further enhanced her education and her interest in poetry.
About 1846 she published her first volume of poems, Forest Leaves. In 1850 she left Baltimore for a teaching position in Ohio. In 1860 she married Fenton Harper, who died in 1864. They had one child, Mary. Although Harper's work would take her around the country and into many states, the latter part of her life was spent in Philadelphia.
Frances Harper published nine other volumes of poems over the years 1854-1900, with varied subjects, but usually with strong social and religious emphases. Her novel lola Leroy was published in 1892, and she also published short fiction and essays. During most of her career she was equally as well known as a crusader for human rights and as a compelling orator on many subjects, including slavery, interracial harmony and equality, women's rights, temperance, and education. She also was influential in various local and national organizations and activities concerning all of these. Sometimes referred to as " The Bronze Muse," Harper was one of the most outstanding and best known of nineteenth century African American writers and orators.
Donated by The George Moses Horton Society for the Study of African American Poetry.”

The U.S. AI industry is being run by a batshit rationalist sex cult, and no, I am not being hyperbolic - they’re genuinely Like That:
Erin Redwing
@realizingerin
I went to an rationalist/EA Al doomer event last night with the goal of meeting someone who could calmly explain to me the argument for how they get to the conclusion that Al will kill everyone.
Because these are rationalists, I expected to find people who could lay out a serious extinction pathway, walk through the assumptions and intermediate steps, identify choke points where negative pathways could potentially be regulated, and entertain disagreement about where their assumptions might break down.
My experience was the exact opposite.
The people I spoke to seemed psychologically unable to entertain the possibility that their conclusion (that Al literally kills everyone, which was a point that many would not even budge on) might be wrong.
Their most extreme conclusion was treated as an axiom.
I had multiple people walk out of conversations with me when I questioned their inevitable extinction premise.
At one point during a panel, the moderator asked everyone in the audience who was still skeptical of Al doom to raise their hands. About half the room did. He then told all of the skeptics to leave the panel and go with one of the speakers, who would answer their questions separately. They filtered out all the skeptics, and continued the panel only with the subset who accepted their extreme position.
I genuinely felt like a heretic just for questioning whether superintelligent Al inevitably leads to the extinction of humanity, or entertaining the possibility that the future might actually turn out well.
That does not mean Al safety is fake. Obviously there are serious questions about rapidly advancing Al systems and what happens as they become much more capable. Those are exactly the conversations I went there hoping to have.
But what I encountered was an apocalyptic death cult. These people are not rational. They are deeply afraid, they reinforce that fear in one another, and they have become so emotionally committed to apocalypse

May I remind everyone that there is currently NO cure for rabies. May I also remind everyone there is absolutely NO scientific proof connecting ANY vaccine that we produce today with autism. This is true regarding vaccination in both humans AND in dogs. Vaccinate your pets please.
Worries about vaccination rates in dogs
As rabies seems to be spreading more in wildlife, veterinarians are especially worried about vaccine hesitancy spreading among pet owners, a dangerous trend that could lead to more dogs - and their owners
- becoming infected. A 2023 study published in the journal Vaccine found in nationally representative
sample of Americans that nearly 40% believed canine vaccines were unsafe and 37% believed that vaccines could lead their dogs to develop cognitive issues, such as autism.
