Without fare hikes “the department would not be able to fund the expansion of public transport services” - Minister Daragh O’Brien This is false, the NTA admitted they wanted fares to be 44% of their budget, they just didn’t ask for the extra money www.thejournal.ie/budget-2027-...

Labour’s transport spokesperson, Ciarán Ahern, said public transport users would be feeling “let down”.

I have had people On Here call it an overreaction to use the term "traffic violence." As someone who has been hit by a driver, I can tell you it's sure as hell violent. As someone who has been threatened by a driver, it's sure as hell violent. The entire system of car dependency is violent.

Fascinating retelling of the coalescing of economic, philanthropic, political and religious interests underpinning Protestant laundries. When the Midnight Mission became economically unviable, it was supported by charitable donations from the Fry and Guinness families.

don't have many hardline opinions (well, maybe increasing of late) but if you can't park or manoeuvre without parking assist or cameras, the public road ain't for you and should probably surrender that license

Just thinking about these two stories next to each other: 1. In Darndale Park, a football club and a parkrun have been displaced by horses, and some locals have been asking for stables. Nothing yet. 2. In D2, the council is spending €7.5m on a new tearoom in Merrion Square, an area short of cafes?
dublininquirer.com
What to do with the horses of Darndale?
Grazing in public parks means other uses are being pushed out, and adding momentum to calls for an equine centre and stable club to properly support horse culture in the area.

I predict we'll need gyms for our brains too, once Al

I'm only one question into the Vanity Fair Sam Altman interview and I feel I will die
This feels like a watershed moment. And I just want to know, Sam, what has the past month been like for you? Have you slept? Is your phone ringing off the hook? Are world leaders calling you asking for answers? Does this feel like the 2022 moment when you launched ChatGPT where something has changed or is this just an average week in the life?

A little bit of both, to be honest. I think the internal experience of this is we have been talking about this and preparing for this for the last decade in some sense. And we have been seeing this exponential progress and we have been confused about why more of the world has not seen progress the way that we’ve seen it. Because to us, the fact that this moment would come has been very predictable.

Is it controversial to say that I don't think we should be naming laws after real people in Ireland, is that not a bit overly sentimental for something like a law that should be cut and dry and unexciting
