It’s easy (more easy than accurate) to dismiss academic critics of generative AI as uninformed or emotive, which is often anyway code for “moralizing.” But it’s remarkable how much gen AI boosterism requires feigning ignorance that theft and impersonation are widely seen as wrong, for good reasons.

Like, "take an unexpected interruption, comment on it, weave it into what you were going to say anyway, continue unflustered" is a skill that most people with a teaching role pick up fairly quickly, out of necessity. While impressive from a politician, it's not *supernatural* communication skills.

So I have a book out about the challenges and dilemmas arising from large-scale immigration. Of course I look at the benefits of integrating and incorporating migrants (and how social policy can help) but I also focus on the political obstacles that play out in many countries.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy: www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

The exterior of our new and future warehouse home - on Patrick Street, Templemore, Tipperary Ireland - the former O'Doherty's Hardware. The new bookshop is in the part on the right ( under Builder's Providers' ) as it was. Interior of the shop looking out to Patrick Street. The building is long so this makes it look narrower than it is , with bookshelves on both sides and the inside of the front door on the left
