The numbers in the new Ending Fossil Power report from @stopclimatechaosie.bsky.social should be a wake-up call. 🇮🇪 Ireland is legally committed to cutting emissions by 51% by 2030 - but even if every existing policy is delivered, the EPA projects we’ll achieve just 25%.

Coalition urged to scrap public transport fare hikes as €100m-a-month fuel excise cuts continue
The Government is being urged to halt planned public transport fare hikes amid warnings that climate action and the cost of living should not be pitted against each other.

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are hiking fares in the middle of a cost of living crisis. And after the summer we’ve just had, we should be encouraging more people onto buses and trains and expanding services to reduce our transport emissions. We do that by making it more affordable - not less.

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are trying to put the blame of these public transport fare increases on the National Transport Authority. Make no mistake - these fare increases are a political decision and a result of this Govt's disinterest in public transport and their disregard for its users.

Budget 2027 has to address the impact that fossil fuel price rises are having on families across Ireland, and both provide immediate relief, but also help households make the long-term switch to renewable energy sources, to give them energy security into the future.

Thanks Paul Hosford and the Irish Examiner for reporting my comments on reduced funding for the tenant-in-situ scheme. "Scheme" or "policy tool", no one cares. It works — Genuinely "accidental" landlords get to sell up. Tenants stay in their homes. The state grows social housing. Everyone wins.

Too often in Ireland, we have built new communities and made them wait years (or even decades) for adequate public transport. Why can't we build the necessary transport infrastructure at the same time as it is being built?

The plans for a new suburb in Dunsink need to include adequate transport connections from the outset - not decades later. The proposed Luas extension plans would also serve the areas of Tyrrelstown, Hollywoodrath and Mulhuddart, where public transport has not kept up pace with population growth.

📉The Taxsaver Commuter Scheme is seeing a decline in its uptake - what can we do to improve it? Built around a 5-day, fixed-routine commute, it not longer suits hybrid working or flexible travel patterns, and we have seen a drop in uptake of the scheme from 60k users in 2019 to just 25k today (1/3)

Today, the Govt will use its majority in the Dáil to force the adoption of a watered down Occupied Territories Bill, which is knowingly and intentionally inconsistent with our obligations under intl. law. This is a political decision by the Government, dictated by fear of the Trump administration.
